It rained most of last Saturday, giving us some very much-needed moisture (½"), but fortunately without all the death and destruction in both Tennessee, and in Mississippi. Temps were only in the upper-30s; I closed at 3pm, and it was sleeting on the way home. Sunday, was a different story: sunny, warmer (50°F), dry and in the low-60s. What a difference a day makes. It was very, very busy with lots of new customers as well as long-established customers, coming to visit and purchase.
Work on The Stone Display Yard continues. Seth and Cole are making progress, and Alan, Dave and I discussed leaving the r/s of the irregular-flagstone walk, "naturally-jagged" and planted, and doing clean, symmetrical cuts onn the outside of the hardscape. Then plant the jagged side with spreading, colorfull perennials. I've had them install both deciduous and conifer specimens, all through the .96ac display area.

I think I've finally figured out how a computer works. Heck, I've only been using them since 1982.
On Tuesday afternoon, we noticed that Front Counter Register #2 (computer) was getting very sluggish, and wouldn't process any retail or CC transactions. I shut the apps down, re-booted and finally closed it down for the evening. On Wednesday morning, at "0 Dark Thirty" (6:03am), I ran Norton System Works, SpyBot and Adaware. Everything checked out fine. I did the same routine on Front Counter Register #1 (computer), and Win-XP Pro crashed. Luckily, we had backed-up the previous week, and only minimal data was apparently lost. But Win-XP went south. I called Mark, our CounterPoint™ Rep/Tech from J&M Systems LLC, and he sent his lovely bride and partner, JoAnna, up to the GC&N Complex with MS Tech Win-XP Pro CDs, and we started the repair process in early afternoon. Does anyone remember DOS? Say, "CHKDSK /F"? Takes me back to 1982. Snort! (Mark is a very lucky man to have a woman like her.) He was somewhere in West Virgina, doing client service, dodging herds of deer on the roads and golf courses. When I got in on Thursday morning at "0 Dark Thirty" (6:17am), the rebuilding process was complete, and I ejected the CD, shutdown the machine, and re-started it, to see if Synchronics® CounterPoint™ "went south". The O/S came back up, and I ran a full-system virus scan on #1 and #2. So far, so good.

Here's the premise: stationary cameras took several hundred images throughout 24-hour periods in five urban settings in Italy. Using a tool akin to a virtual iPod click wheel, you can scroll through the day's events in a train station, two public parks, a traffic intersection, or a canal in Venice. This soothing meditation on urban life is as much about sound as it is pictures; depending on the time of day, you hear birds twittering, traffic roaring, children playing, etc. Feel free to speed things up, slow things down, or stop time altogether.
