as I began inventorying my guns and ammo this week, I suddenly had a very uneasy feeling about what's going to happen to this country, when the US Dollar becomes worthless. Ammo could become the new currency.
With an estimated $4 trillion in housing wealth and $9 trillion in stock-market wealth destroyed so far in the US, there is little doubt that we are witnessing a classic debt-deflation bust at work, characterized by falling prices, frozen credit markets and plummeting asset values. We are printing so much paper money, which is backed-up by now-worthless US Treasury Bills, that the coming collapse will be of astronomical proportions. China holds hundreds-of-billions of our US Treasury Bills, now returning essentially zero interest, yet has always been considered a "safe place to park money", and was backed-up by America's assets. Not much longer will they continue to fund our reckless spending.
Those of us having large supplies of non-perishable foods, water filters, potable water, gold, guns, ammo — tangible goods — will survive the coming collapse and hyperinflation, as during the fall of the Weimar Republic. When a simple loaf of bread costs $750, a gallon of gas $125, a can of spinach $35 and fresh vegetables are non-existent, except for those of us who grow our own, we are the only ones who will be able to put up a meaningful resistance to the formation of the new Nazi police state, watched over by our new Gestapo, also known as Homeland Security. Our New Gestapo is now headed by lesbian Janet Napolitano, whose unimaginably-incompetent prowess at securing our borders when she was governor of Arizona apparently qualifies her for this lofty position.
Finally realizing that, after 25 years of failure in trying, taking away America's guns will be impossible, the socialists and Marxists in the liberal-demokkkRAT party will be coming after ammunition, instead. They will attack gun ownership indirectly, by taking away bullets. Like a car without gasoline, a gun without bullets is worthless, except as a paperweight or doorstop. A 500% tax on each round/bullet, serialized/encoded ammunition? Yes, it's about to happen. And all non-serialized/encoded ammunition will me made defacto illegal, with huge fines and prison, as penalties for anyone in possession of it, after 2011. Such bills, with the force of law, are in the legislatures of 42 states, right now.
America has 85 million registered Gun Owners, and probably another 20-30 million unregistered Gun Owners. Ammunition could well become a valid currency among that segment, when the dollar fails and chaos takes over. If marshal law is declared, it definitely will be a form of currency. The price of brass and lead, worldwide, is rising daily, as is the price of copper and many other metals. Regardless, I've stockpiled a ***huge amount*** of five calibers of ammo — .45cal ACP, .357 Magnum, .357SIG, .223cal/5.56mm, .308cal 7.62 x 51mm NATO, 12ga 2¾" — which will last many, many years, even at a "moderate rate of expenditure". At my current rate, it will last beyond my lifetime.
About halfway through sorting invoices by individual firearm folder, and inputting specs, prices, descriptions, calibers, manufacturers, purchase/manufacture dates, makes, models etc etc into the Gun Safe software, I took a 15-minute break and walked around the empty GC&N Complex, and a phrase from "Atlas Shrugged", which I'd read many years ago, rang quite true today, in relation to the $920 billion bailout sadly and regrettably being debated/voted-on by the corrupt, criminal US Congress: "The more incompetent you are in business, the more handouts the politicians will bestow on you. With each successive bailout to 'calm the markets,' another trillion of national wealth is subsequently lost." How prescient Ayn Rand was.
Am I the only one who remembers this? Please tell me that I'm not.

After checking the weather and news at 3:30am on Friday, feeding the cats, and going back to sleep until 7am, I noticed that the 5-15 day forecast included temps in the 40°F & 50°F range — rather "balmy" in relation to what we've had over the past 2-3 weeks — that it went against what all the weather-related sites had "definitely predicted for February", and made them all look idiotic. With massive computer systems worth billions, they're proving worthless, in any viable, long-term forecasts. I was in by 9:30am, answered 6 messages on the phone's tape, worked on numerous paperwork projects, and spent several hours looking at/analyzing the many financial reports on the "Porkulus bill", which is 90% "worthless pork", and which will totally-bankrupt America; that is, you and me! I wrapped it all up by 3:30pm, and left.
Alas, Saturday was just more of the same. Great, "balmy temps". Cloudy, warm and 51°F. Are we ever going to get some real snow, here? It's been a miserable Winter so far, with lots of ice and bitter cold, but no real snowfall. I cleaned-out inboxes, files, cupboards, closets, shelves and the myriad boxes in/on them. By the time I'd finished, there were 4-30gal garbage bags filled-to-the-max, with hardware and paper, quite-ready for the dump or burn-pile. I also assembled the many containers, ammo cans, boxes etc, and began inventorying all the ammo I have inside/on top of my Cannon Dbl-Door Safe (T-62), and began counting it/putting it into the Gun Safe software, which I'd downloaded, a few months ago. Lotsa ammo. I'm halfway done with getting all of my firearms into the software; next comes taking pics of each and inserting them onto the proper page with each weapon. I'm getting "re-acquainted" with each weapon, some of which I haven't handled/shot in a year or so. "Ahhh, me prettys!"
Un-fricking-believable! 53°F at 7am on Sunday! It's like a Summer morning, out there! Hells bells, I had the condo's windows open all of Sunday morning & afternoon, until 6:30pm, until the cold returned at sundown. Amazing; just fricking amazing for the first week of February. I scanned the weather and news sites, and went back to sleep for a couple more hours. By noon, it was 61°F and I headed out to do some food shopping, with full intention on getting the ingredients for a 5-lb boneless Angus eye-of-round pot roast & vegetables, plus a short-list of other stuff I needed for the condo and work. I loaded the roast, 8oz of beef stock and three small cans of V8 juice, plus seasonings into my Rival® 5 Quart Round Smart-Pot® Slow Cooker, turned it up to high for 4hrs, and set aside the potatoes, carrots, pearl onions, baby corn, celery to work on prepping later, for the final 2-3hrs on low. I checked the roast after 3-4hrs, and it wasn't done; it needed another 6-7hrs of overnite slow cooking. I fished-out the roast, ladled-out the vegs, put them back into the Crock-Pot in reverse order, sealed it up, set it on low for 8hrs, and went to sleep. The vegs and gravy were excellent, but the roast needed more cooking time.
I was up at 4am to feed the cats, and checked the roast: 98.88405867% there, but it could use another 1-2hrs. I sampled the vegs and gravy, and they were only getting better with time. Back on low for another ~2hrs. Back to sleep for another 2hrs. I split the large batch into 3 parts: Mom & Dad, Lee and myself. It was v-e-r-y good, ifIdosaysomyself. 49°F, clear and sunny all day. Another Spring-like day, and more coming later this week. But these "Summer-like" aberrations won't last very long. Winter weather is coming down behind this warm front, and we'll get hammered next week. We always seem to have one of these 3-5-7 day warm patches, in either late-January or early-February, every year. Then, Winter comes back with a vengeance; usually it's a blizzard or sub-zero temps. Either way, it's a punishing period of Winter.
I stopped at Staples on the way home, on Monday, to look at new executive office chairs and new computer tables. It's been 18yrs, and I'm needing some "replacements", ASAP. I need to take some office measurements, and make a decision, quickly.
After shopping around on the Net sites, I finally found a nice deal on a Samsung 22" WideScreen LCD Monitor: the 2243BWX, for $249.99 $199.99, free 3-day UPS, and ordered it on Monday. My office's Samsung 245T 24" cost $659.99, but I wasn't going to spend an additional $459.99 for an extra 2" frigging inches of flatscreen real estate. Nope. The 22" would do just fine, at my condo. I'll post some pics after I get it set-up, and my 'puter nook re-arranged.
Unlike 95% of the people I know, I'm a big lover of *Brussel Sprouts* (cruciferous super veggie), whether fresh or frozen; though I'd prefer fresh when they're more readily available in the Winter months. The frost/cold weather makes them sweeter. I picked-up 2lbs of fresh on Sunday, and trimmed, peeled and steamed them on Monday evening. Butter, salt & pepper, and I'm "in heaven", while eating them like M&M's. Good to eat and good for you.
Monday's "24" was great! Jack Bauer was at his terrorist-torturing, demokkkRAT-traitor-killing, liberal-coward-ass-kicking best. Kill the lib-dem scum, Jack! Woo-hoo, Jack! Kill the terrorists and other subhuman lib-dem filth! "24" was on after the socialist-Marxist Present Barry Hussein Obama-Osama-Lama-Rama-Ding-Dong's (Nigga-IL Lies & Bullshit Address, at 8pm. He lied directly to America 3x, and no one called him on it! Once again, my eyes were squirting blood!

Yes, gas prices are creeping back toward $2.00/gal. I've documented that over the past 3-4 weeks. The end of $1.50/gal gas was a while ago; get ready for $2-$3-$4/gal gas, to come back again. On Tuesday, I noticed that in just the last 5 days, gas prices at the pump have risen 10¢. Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $1.99/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $2.09/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is now at $2.29/gal, with Diesel actually dropping 2¢, to $2.59/gal. The end of sub-$2.00/gal Unleaded Regular is at-hand. We won't ever see that price-point again, IMO.
I think I'm going to take a "break" from email; how long, I just not sure, yet. Maybe just a day or three, a week, who knows? But that article, and "In Praise of Slowness", got me to thinking about re-ordering this part of my daily life. How bad can enjoying life, once again, be?
At my GC&N Office, I need both a new leather chair and a new computer cart/desk. My current hi-back leather chair is 10-12yrs old, and the metal base/stand is falling apart. My computer cart is 32yrs old, and seriously needs replacing/updating, although it still works just fine. If I re-painted it black, no one would even notice it. But since it's white, everyone says, "How old is that thing?" I've since stopped into my local Staples® store, and have found replacements for both items, and after carefully taking some measurements, and will order them within the next week. First, I need to get the new 22" Samsung LCD Monitor installed and set-up, at my condo. Then, the office's "old sound system", will come home for installation. Third, the office's new computer cart, the new leather chair and a required protective floor covering, would get installed at work. First things, first. I plan to get all these projects done, before Spring arrives, and I get too busy to do it during "the season", when it's critical to tend to business, and make sure all of my customers, and my employees, are well-taken care of. I'm going to give James a call, and see if he's free to help me with some of these projects.
It started raining on my way to a doctor's appointment, mid-Tuesday afternoon, and was still raining when I quit for the day at 10:30pm. We really needed a hard, continuous rain to wash-off the roads/streets, sidewalks, of all the salt brine, cinders and dust off of the surfaces. We just didn't get it, as 90% of it again went up and around us, to New England.
My new 22" Samsung LCD Monitor arrived at the GC&N Complex on Wednesday, and I began the "set-up/switchover procedure" as soon as I got home. I brought home a small stool to move the drive tower on to, began disconnecting wires, cables and hardware, and moved the old audio system to the garage, in lieu of my older office sound system being installed in the new configuration. I soon realized that my 2 hands weren't going to be enough to work thru the "bundle-of-frigging-snakes" (wires) and hardware, so I left a message at Jeff's that I could use some help. He called back and we scheduled a tech session to get my "punch-list" done on Thursday evening.
A *Severe Thunderstorm Warning* was issued for Adams and York Counties, just before 9pm. I checked the regional radar maps, and York wasn't in any danger, as far as I could see. Then, a *High Wind Warning* (50-60mph winds, 90mph gusts!) was posted. Yikes! For the past couple of hours on Wednesday evenings, I've been scanning the various weather sites' medium- and long-range forecasts, to see if we're finally going to "get some Winter", and it appears that we aren't. This is going down as a very, very mild Winter — I only remember 1-2 of them in the past 19-20yrs — with this close to "below normal precipitation", in the so-called "official record". Drat. I was tired, and called it a day at 10:30pm.
High Wind Warning? YES, they were right on that one! I saw lawn chairs, garbage cans and small animals and children blowing down the streets as I drove to work on Thursday morning. There were people actually struggling just to walk. Power and phones snapped, wires down, roads closed all over the place. I saw dozens of Met-Ed and Adams Electric repair trucks all over the York area, all day. Last I heard, there were still 10,000-15,000 people without power; fortunately it's 43°F outside, and no one's freezing to death.
Arrrrrrgh! Valentine's Day is all over the TV and radio, and it's driving me freaking nuts! ProFlowers.com and PajamaGram.com, LiveLob.com and CandyGram.com, etc etc etc ad nauseum dot com! Give me a frigging break! Get this damned un-holy-holiday, over with! Please, Dear God: kill me! (Just kidding!)
K-E-W-L, WIN-XP Desktop Apps.
I'm so damned tired of my bland WIN-XP Pro desktop, and am now *aggressively customizing* it. I've spent inordinate amounts of time scouring the many websites who offer an extra level of customization. And I've found 8, which work very well. www.stardock.com is the premier site for windows customization, but it's not a freebie, except for the Accu-Weather-affiliated, *My Colors* skins, which is free. I use the 'Quest' version on both office and condo machines, and really like it. Or else I wouldn't tell you about it.
Apps & gadgets on the L/S of screen.
I downloaded/installed Rocket Dock on Saturday evening, and was pleasantly surprised at how KEWL it was. I pinned it against the L/S screen, deleted many of their default icons, and replaced them with my own, from PowerDesk v6. Nice app, BTW. Same with Object Dock; very, very sweet. WinCustomize is the "granddaddy" of them all, and is affiliated with MS in the new Windows "7" O/S, coming this Fall. I'm definitely going to get Win-7!

You may already have Century Gothic on your Windows-XP machine, and that's almost always used for the body copy or subheads, so grab it, if you don't already have it; you're reading it now. They're free from my website. Grab 'em! Save them to your HD, and install to C:/Windows/Fonts (folder), thru your WIN XP Control Panel > Fonts > File > Install New Font. Simple stuff; just takes a few minutes.
Here are a few others, which have been used in my Journal: Papyrus and Acoustic Bass, and Caesar Regular and Carleton and Charrington Strewn and Catherine. If you get and install them, you'll see how much nicer these pages are to view and read. Shit-for-brains, mentally-ill, fat, bloated liar, AlGoreBore's (LOWLIFE-TN) "ally", in NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by AlGoreBore's chief scientific ally/"asshole/butt-buddy"— Dr James "Moron-Cretin-Asshole" Hansen (DIRTBAG-NASA) — and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that "last month was the hottest October on record". Total, factual bullshit and lies. This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China's official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its "worst snowstorm ever". In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years. So what explained the anomaly? GISS's computerized temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But when expert readers of the two leading warming-skeptic blogs, Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running.
