For the past 3 days, we've had two Nor'Easters coming up the eastern seaboard, sitting on top of us, and dumping 2"+ of rain. But my landscape crew managed to get all their work done, paperwork done and I got all the billing out by Friday at 3pm. Dad's been out sick since Monday, and his mail is piling-up, although I've handled all the bank deposits and payroll, in addition to my own duties.
Sure, it's been raining in York County a lot this Fall, but it's one of the driest Falls on-record, according to this chart. There's plenty of water in-ground, right now, but how the Winter rains/snows result, will determine what happens to so much plant materials in the Spring, installed by us in the Fall. That's why I *mandate Drip Irrigation Systems* on every job, or no expressed/implied 5-year Warranty.
On Saturday, Dad & I were in at 9:30am, finished-up loads of paperwork, and left around 12:30pm. With the cold drizzle, zero customers, running the LPG heaters, electric and computers was a net loss, and that's not what I'm in business to do. I went home, worked on Windows 7, for a few hours, and then laid down in front of a roaring gas fireplace, with my two condo cats, Mama Kitty & Murphy, and slept for 3-4hrs. I felt much better after the nap. Sunday was predicted to be warm and sunny, and hopefully I'd feel better with a good night's sleep.
Although sick all week with a head and chest cold, Dad was inducted into The Court of Valor, on Saturday at 1pm. He didn't go, but he is now immortalized on the granite support beams, for both his Purple Heart and Bronze Star of Valor, in WWII's Battle of The Bulge. I was proud to nominate him for the honor.
I watched The History Channel on Sunday afternoon/evening, which showed "The Man Who Predicted 9-11", "Grounded on 9-11", "9/11 Conspiracies: Fact or Fiction", and "Hotel Ground Zero". Angry, tearful stuff for me. I remember it like it was just yesterday, yet I predicted it, in 1999.
Although I've had a hacking cough, congestion and general aches & pains for well over a week now, I had to make it into work on Monday, and Tuesday since Dad was even sicker than me and stayed home, and Jennifer had to leave at noon for a dental appointment. I had some customers through to buy shrubs and mulch, but not a particularly busy day. I closed-down at 3pm and went home to my two condo cats, some undone chores and a few FX-Networks & History Channel WWII-HD movies, and laid down on the couch, in front of a roaring gas fire.

By Wednesday, I was feeling about 90%, and Dad even stopped into the shop for a few hours, to catch-up on his mail and write a few checks. It was a nice day outside, and the lscp crew almost finished a job, but ran 3 CuYds short of mulch. They'll go back Thursday and finish it, so I can do the final billing.
Thursday was a very foggy, cold and rainy day; just miserable. I had a 10am meeting with one of the nursery brokers, Jennifer and James to put in Spring 2010 nursery stock orders with three of his growers. Because I have a bad feeling about 2010's economic picture, I just "filled-in the holes" in what we have left-over from this season. Probably around $7k, instead of the usual $50-75k I order in each Spring. I hope I'm proven wrong and that next year winds-up being a good season. We'll see, about this same time, next year.
