as the nation waits to hear whether a Missouri police officer will face charges for killing unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., the FBI is warning law enforcement agencies across the country that the decision “will likely” lead some extremist protesters to threaten and even attack police officers or federal agents. Peaceful protesters could be caught in the middle, and electrical facilities or water treatment plants could also become targets. In addition, so-called “hacktivists” like the group “Anonymous” could try to launch cyber-attacks against authorities.
“The announcement of the grand jury's decision … will likely be exploited by some individuals to justify threats and attacks against law enforcement and critical infrastructure,” the FBI says in an intelligence bulletin issued in recent days. “This also poses a threat to those civilians engaged in lawful or otherwise constitutionally protected activities.” "Those infiltrating and exploiting otherwise legitimate public demonstrations with the intent to incite and engage in violence could be armed..."
The FBI bulletin expresses concern only over those who would exploit peaceful protests, not the masses of demonstrators who will want to legitimately, lawfully and collectively express their views on the grand jury's decision.
The bulletin “stresses the importance of remaining aware of the protections afforded to all U.S. persons exercising their First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.”
Within hours of the FBI issuing its bulletin, some police departments across the country issued their own internal memos urging officers to review procedures and protocols for responding to mass demonstrations.
Still, the bulletin’s conclusions were blunt: “The FBI assesses those infiltrating and exploiting otherwise legitimate public demonstrations with the intent to incite and engage in violence could be armed with bladed weapons or firearms, equipped with tactical gear/gas masks, or bulletproof vests to mitigate law enforcement measures.”
The bulletin cites a series of recent messages threatening law enforcement, including a message posted online last week by a black separatist group that offered “a $5,000 bounty for the location” of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, who fired the shots that killed Brown on Aug. 9th.
In interviews with ABC News, police officials said their departments have identified a number of agitators who routinely appear at mass demonstrations.
“How many of those sympathizers are actually sympathizers?” Rick Hite, the chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan police department, wondered. Many of them see the protests as a way to “chime in with their own personal agenda,” he said.
In its new intelligence bulletin, obtained by ABC News, the FBI says “exploitation” of mass demonstrations “could occur both in the Ferguson area and nationwide.

Missouri Gov Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard in advance of a grand jury decision about whether a white police officer will be charged in the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.

A Day In The Life
Friday morning at 5am was a cold, cloudy one, at 29°F, but at least the main snowstorm had moved east and was heading up the coast. A few flurries, but nothing major. I fixed fresh OJ, while the coffee was steeping, and went back up to get my robe; even the initial 74° setting wasn't warm enough. I made Sunny-Side-Up Eggs & Toast and read articles about the coming brouhaha between Congress and 0sambo-boy, and could only laugh; we're screwed for at least two more years. The Mid-Terms were little more than a joke. The garbage trucks started coming thru at 8am, and I re-checked my food shopping list for the morning. I decided to drive out to the bigger and better Weis Market in West York, rather than the smaller one I usually
I was in the mood for an Large Italian Sub w/ Chips, enjoyed a Schweppes Ginger Ale, and listened to The Rush Limbaugh Show from 12-3. After getting the mail, I had two large shipping folders from Geisinger Gold Preferred PPO Advantage for my Medicare Plan, to read, sort thru and file. The Medicare Gold PPO Gold Plan 2014 Health Plan would be only in effect until Dec 31st, and then a different Gold Advantage PPO would take over. Chris Plante (WMAL-DC) was off today, so I couldn't get his morning podcast, and the sub-host wasn't very good. I switched streaming stations for the always good John Batchelor Show, on until 1:30am. My "active" file boxes need a massive clean-out and re-organization; it'll be a good Winter project. By 10:30, I was nodding off and needed to get to sleep. I closed down, armed the condo and went up to bed.
Awake on Saturday at 4:15am, a dark and cold 26°F, I tried to go back to sleep several times, but to no avail. I got up, grabbed my robe, fired-up the furnace and started the OJ and coffee. I suddenly and inexplicably had an urge for German Potato Pancakes (Latkes), so I took the time and made four. Delicious; saved two for Dad. Small (under 50) email load, and with news and weather scanned, I noticed that we're getting some "warmer" weather next week, and that the ***SNOWSTORM WATCH*** for Monday had predictably turned to plain rain, with no snow in sight. I had some errands to get done, and left at 10am. Traffic was surprisingly
Up at 7am on Sunday, it was a (comparatively) "balmy" 36°F outside, but the morning still required a warm robe. With OJ and coffee, I had Soft-Boiled Eggs w/ Toast in a bowl, and a rasher of Smoked Bacon. Mmmmmmmm, bacon. I started the laundry loads, did some condo chores, although the two cleaning ladies will be here Wednesday at 8:30am. By 7pm, I had the fresh bed linens installed, laundry folded and stowed away, and temps had dropped from 37° to 29° in 2hrs. By 8pm, I was recording Fox News' 2-hr special, "The Man Who Killed bin Laden", listening to the evening's streaming Gun Talk Radio Network Show, while I followed the thread on this site, and with the "Aftershow", until 12-midnight. Time for sleep.
I slept-in until 7:30am on Monday, and the cold rain continued. At 36°F, at least it wasn't snow or freezing rain; that was to the northwest of us, but moving north and east. I had OJ and coffee, skipped breakfast, and left at 9:15 to get some errands done and stop by Dad's. That done, I was back home around 11:30, just as the rain changed-over to freezing rain and coated everything. The
Tuesday morning was the coldest yet, at just 21°F, from the cold front moving thru, and my alarm went off at 5:30. With my 7:45 haircut appointment looming, and 30mins of travel time south, I needed to get moving. Skipping breakfast, I grabbed my robe, fired-up the furnace, made OJ and coffee, checked email, news and weather. It wouldn't get too awfully much warmer for the rest of the day. I'd grab a shower and clean clothes when I got home, later. It was a "balmy" 22° when I left for the drive south at 7:15, though the brutal 45-50mph wind made it feel below zero. But at least we didn't get the snow like Buffalo did; heh. Haircut done, nice tip for old friend Walt, Marine GSgt and retired Red Lion Police Chief, I left and stopped at Weis Market to get some things for Dad and myself. I stopped for a visit with him, unpacked the Jeep into his 'fridge, and was back home by 11:30am. I made a Cheeseburger & Fries, Shrimp & Corn Chowder Soup, and Cold Pasta Salad, for lunch, and laid down on the LR couch to rest my aching left hip, after eating 5 aspirin. The roaring fire, just a few feet away, felt nice. I slept for a couple of hours; woke around 4:30pm when it was getting dark. After checking the weather for tonite and tomorrow, temps were already back down from a day's "high" of 34° to 21°

A brutal 17°F on Wednesday morning, broke several records for this time of year, here. Why I woke at 3am and finally got up at 4:15am, is beyond me. Way too damn early. After OJ and coffee, I had an English Muffin w/ Marmalade, and found that MS had a pile of patches/downloads waiting. I let them install and restarted the computer. The front door's glass storm door needed cleaning, so I did it, and the cleaning ladies arrived at 8:30. I left to get a batch of errands done. About ¾ of the way thru the stops, I started getting calls for service appointments and realtor meetings, requiring that I go back home and get my calendar out to check against their requests. Back home with my monthly-yearly appointment calendar, I got 2 of 3 scheduled, and will meet up with the 3rd tech on Friday, when I make a run to Stewartstown to p/u Rxs.
I made a Large Italian Sub w/ Chips and a bowl of Ham & Bean Soup, for lunch. The cleaning ladies had nicely and professionally done their work,an I was satisfied. Dad was at the dentist for some pre-op work, so I went back out to finish up my last 4 errands. Back by 4pm, I could relax for a few minutes, before getting some materials ready to use in meeting with my realtor, tomorrow. By 5pm, it was already dark, so I stayed inside for the evening, and listened to an hour of The Mark Levin Show, but soon switched over to 3 new NatGeoTV videos I found: NatGeoTV: "Lethal Action" (45:59), and NatGeoTV: Life Below Zero "The Awakening" (42:39), and NatGeoTV: Life Below Zero "Search and Rescue" (43:57). I was tired from getting-up way too early this morning, that I decided to hit the sack early, at 11pm, after closing down and arming the condo.
Thursday morning at 7:30 was a welcome respite from the previous two nights' temps: 33°F was almost "tropical" in comparison. Robe on, heat up, I had the usual OJ and coffee, some rye toast and checked the weather, news and email. With the exception of Buffalo getting the royal shit kicked out of it, looks like Winter's only visiting temporarily, and we'll be back to some moderate temps by the weekend, and into next week. Jeez, 10ft of snow in 3 days! Wait until all that white stuff melts. Whoooo-weeeeee, what a mess and flood they've got coming. I made the realtor's office meeting at 10am, spent 30mins with him going over a restoration proposal cost of the GC&N Complex, exclusive of the massive GHs, and pole buildings, and other facilities. They have a showing tomorrow to a vodka distiller, which I don't go to, unless invited. I left for my other errands, and stopped at a grocery market to get some fresh cranberries and Granny Smith Apples, to grind and cut-up into a fresh relish for next Thursday's Turkey Dinner.
I was back home by 11:45, made a Large Italian Sub w/ Chips, a bowl of Broccoli-Cheddar Soup, listened to Rush until 3, called Dad and Becky, and noticed that the morning's missed Chris Plante Show hadn't been posted yet. I went out for a short walk in the cold, returned to warm-up and worked on paperwork for a few hours until The Mark Levin Show came on, and listened to 0sambo's immigration announcement, scanned some Conservative forum boards for reaction, and called it a day, once again early at 10pm.
Tomorrow (Friday) starts a new week here in the "Journal", and with Thanksgiving on Thursday, it'll be a fairly busy week to get ready for Dad's and Becky's visit that day. I don't have anything else scheduled, except to avoid all the traffic for the next several weeks, by using back and side roads. Living near the massive Galleria Mall complex has its drawbacks on the holidays.

Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia are going through the worst Ebola outbreak in history and health officials believe that it has killed more than 700 people there. Now, for the first time, Ebola has "officially" entered the United Sates via two health aid workers, that contracted the disease while working in Africa, where the Ebola outbreak continues.
Ebola virus disease (EVD), originally known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, and often times (70-90%) fatal disease in humans. Case fatality can be up to 90 percent – in other words, 90 out of every 100 people who catch Ebola die. EVD outbreaks typically occur in remote villages in Central and West Africa and are transmitted via wild animals (such as fruit bats) to humans.
The first patient landed in the United States on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Dr. Kent Brantly was then flown from Africa to the United States and then transported via ambulance to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. The second person, Nancy Whitebol, will return to the U.S. in the coming days. Many people are questioning the decision to bring the two American aid workers to the United States to be treated. According to the New York Times, Dr. Bruce S. Ribner, an infectious disease specialist at Emory and who will be caring for these patients, said, "The reason we are bringing these

Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs. But behind a series of highly alarmed doors and long, cement, camera-laden hallways. It is the highly sophisticated, climate-controlled treasure room where the army keeps its most precious artifacts.
The facility was built for $24 million in 2010. The cavernous warehouse is typically shrouded in total darkness. Motion lights illuminate only the areas in which someone is walking.
