as we count-down, to less-than-7-days before the General Election, in "The Unending Election Campaign From Hell", I need a break from it all. I need a "worthwhile distraction"; a real respite from the drudgery of internal polls; pundits' predictions; candidate rallies; lawn signs; bumper stickers; candidates' automated telephone calls; terribly-biased articles by the corrupt media; the "gay agenda" juggernaut's anger and rage at Traditional America; wild-eyed, mentally-ill, frothing-at-the-mouth leftists, who try to intimidate/bully/harass and "get-in-your-face" (but whom truly need killing); ACORN assholes' widespread corruption & crimes; punk-terrorist filth Bill Ayres & Bernadette Dorn (both of whom truly need killing); racist Irrevs Wright and Pfluger, and soooooooooooooooooo many more hate-America leftist subhuman filth radicals, that I can't stand it any longer. I need a break from it all. And I'm taking it, in this week's "Journal" entry, dammit. Consequences be damned. I know that the 30,000 - 50,000 readers of this weekly "Journal", will either join-in with me or "turn the channel", if they're somehow "bored", and rightly so. It is what it is. No need for "The Fairness Doctrine", here. You have real "choice".

"It's sad to have to say this, but I urge you to 'take adequate appropriate measures' with extra food, water, guns & ammo, to protect your family and yourself, prior to Nov 4th. There will be either 'celebration riots' or 'stolen election riots', by the Obama-Biden scum & filth, depending upon who wins on Nov 5th; you can count on it. History has assured us of that pathetic fact."

[A Sidenote: The next time you read this "Journal" entry, we'll have a new POTUS (President Of The US), ***MAYBE***. Why do I say that? Because if McCain-Palin win, the liberal-demokkkRAT filth will scream "racism" and "stolen election", as the assholes idiotically did in 2000 & 2004, and tie-it-all-up in the courts for days, if not weeks. The riots will be heard, seen and felt nationally and worldwide — mark my words, right here — which will make the 1965 Watts and 1968 MLK assassination riots, and the 1968 DemokkkRATic National Convention riots, look like "a simple walk in the park", causing as much death, damage and destruction. It will get very, very ugly, and I urge you to "take appropriate measures" with extra food, water, guns & ammo, as to protect your family and yourself. I have done so, and am well-prepared for any eventuality. If Obama-Biden win, the "celebration riots" will envelope just as many cities and cause almost as much death, damage and destruction. That said, I truly hope nothing happens, but I am assured by history, that it will occur on a scale which will boggle a rational American's mind. Sad to say, in this enlightened day and age, isn't it?]

To that "equitable end", as we now inevitably pass through the "transitional and declining Fall months", and approach the "sleepy, regenerative Winter months", while looking forward to the "rebirth, renewal Spring Months", I take careful and thoughtful stock in what Antonio Vivaldi's, "The Four Seasons" really means to me, and me alone. I often play Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons", as an adjunct to my daily routine of doing what needs to be done, to get ready for Winter. After "The Season of Death & Rest", Spring will inevitably come along, as it will always do. The other seasons will either lead or follow, as they are always also wont to do, too. After 25+ years of being a "Vivaldi Junkie", nothing's changed; I still enjoy all of his musical genius. Be it played by Mozart, Chang, Bell, The English Chamber Orchestra, Zuckerman, Mutter, Carmignola, Brahms, Buthod, I Musici, de Falla, American Baroque, Lalecan, Kennedy, Laiho, Strauss, Red Priest, Tartini or a thousand-plus, other well-versed virtuosos, I cherish and enjoy Antonio Vivaldi's classic, timeless, Magnificent Opus of "Life, Decline, Death, Rest and Re-Birth". It just doesn't get any better than that on this insignificant, earthly plane, IMO.

Natural progression or natural succession? And all that I or you can do, is marvel at what "exquisitiveness", at which God has put-into-place, with "The 4 Seasons", which do what they're designed/intended to do, either with or without us and our participation/approval/acceptance. We're but mere "cogs" in that "Wheel of Life & Death", BTW. All you and I can do is sit back and marvel (again, that darned adjective) at what He's "put-into-play", for this insignificant "blue orb", which we mercifully-inhabit, and (hopefully) lovingly-tend, to His approval/disdain//anger, thus far.

If you think about "it", it all makes sense, in conjunction with Vivaldi's Grand Music Opus, "The Four Seasons". Simply listen, and be amazed, at what you hear. There's no "grander task", than merely-listening and truly-understanding what you are hearing. Many people aren't able to understand what they hear, and are therefore turned-off to that which they listen. All's the pity & sadness for them, IMO.

All that said, I'm finally enjoying a week's respite from all the "election hub-bub", courtesy of Vivaldi. Oh would that he were still alive and continuing to make real music, today. I'm sure he'd be very depressed at what passes for "music", these days. I think he'd also term it "noise, looking for a category", as I've said, for the past 25+ years. IMO, the last "palatable music" ended in the late-60s, with the death of Rock 'n Roll, and the advent of "disco", and on and on and on and on, to the rap-crap we've been forced to endure, for the past 10+ years. But, I digress.

I've recorded numerous Vivaldi classics, other than his best-known, "The Four Seasons", to DVD-RW, and carry them with me in my Jeep, for my own listening pleasure while driving. While stopped at various intersections with one of his many selections playing, I often get a most gratifying "thumbs-up" sign, from adjacent motorists in the waiting queue. Who knew that there are so many "Vivaldi Afficidonados", out there, amongst us? It's most gratifying, and gives me hope that "real music" isn't dead and gone from our 21st century lives.

Anywho, I've enjoyed this week-off from "The Unending Election Campaign From Hell", as I needed a break from it, and I took it for my own mental health. If I didn't do it for myself, I'd never get it from anyone else, but that's *why* I write "The Journal", isn't it? I think so.

On the way home from work on Friday afternoon, I noticed that the price of gas, at the pumps, had dropped another 8¢, as the world price of light, sweet crude had also dropped, yet there's no direct correlation between the two. Who cares? Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $2.51/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $2.61/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is at $2.81/gal, with Diesel at $1.49/gal. Why simple diesel fuel, which is a far less refined product, is always so freaking expensive, as compared to gas, is an ongoing mystery to me. Is "someone" trying to keep the price artificially-inflated, to harm and slow-down US/ World Commerce? Is the demand just that greater for it? is the refining process more complicated and more expensive? Okay, after "some exhaustive research", here's why diesel fuel, or "#2 distillate", is much higher-priced, than ordinary gasoline.

My LSCP Foreman, Alan, and I had an early afternoon meeting with Rev Tom Shelley (my Dad's cousin; 2nd from left in pic) of Zion Shaffer's United Lutheran Church, Seven Valleys (PA), to review a large donation of 14 trees for his church property and their picnic grove. I'm donating 6 large Purple Beeches, 3 large Oaks, and 5 American Elm saplings/seedlings. We'll be installing them on Thursday, Oct 30th, so we met to lay out the installation plan, and mark the exact locations, since we have only 1½ days to get this done, with 3 men and my backhoe. Time is getting short, and we have a lot of projects to get finished-up, plus get the entire Garden Center & Nursery stored-away, before Winter weather sets-in. We re-landscaped the front of the church last year — a greatly-needed improvement — and this multi-tree donation will wind-up my efforts to help improve Cousin Tom's ministry at that wonderful, Historical Church. Jennifer & Bob have finally finished the massive inventory of thousands-of-pieces-of nursery stock, and the 7 GHs contents. My Sister Becky and my Ass't Greenhouse/ Nursery Mgr, Bob, are working in the GHs to cut-back, weed, clean and consolidate the thousands of 1gal perennials, in GHs 2-3-4, for Winter storage. As soon as the deciduous (lose their leaves) shrubs drop most/all of their leaves, we'll begin moving them into the GHs, for storage. The Conifers (evergreens) will be brought inside in another week, or so, for storage. Everything, and I mean ***everything***, will be inside GHs 1-2-3-4-5-6, by Friday, November 21st, before Winter sets-in and before the Thanksgiving Holiday. As I've said several times, I believe we'll have an early, harsh, very cold and snowy-icy, Winter. I don't want to get caught in that early snow or ice, while we're working to store all that remaining nursery stock. That happened to me several times in "the early years", and it truly sucked. I've learned to avoid that possibility now, at all costs, even to the extent of putting-off jobs until the following Spring, in order to finish-up the GC&N's massive storage project.

On Tuesday, Bob, my Ass't GH & Nursery Mgr, gave me some "bad news". He told me that he'd accepted an "incontrovertible offer", which his previous employer had made, and that he'd be leaving us on Monday, Nov 3rd, for a York (PA) area re-training period. It's a very inconvenient time for us right now, since we're getting ready to put away/store thousands-of-pieces of remaining plant material, but a very "good career move" for him, but since he's been such a good and valuable employee for the past 2 seasons, I could do nothing but wish him well, in his "wise career move". Jennifer's husband, Dave, did the same thing, about 4+ years ago; it was a smart and wise career move for both him and her, and I wished him well in that career move. I value his (and Dave's) friendship, and am most pleased that he's doing well, with this career change. (Notice my use of "career change"; not merely "job move".) In my 18 years, I've had dozens hundreds of employees, whom we've "trained-into-our-system", moving-on to either other garden centers, nurseries or various industry-related positions, in other industries. I've "trained" scores of them, all to much non-avail; they've all left for "greener pastures", and I applaud them all. Smart, wise "career change decisions", all. The Horticulture Industry is a "job", and not a "career". Bob, like Dave, was very smart to choose a career within another industry; this time, the banking industry. Dave's was another industry, IIRC.

Temps at night are dropping into the upper-30°Fs, while daytime temps are in the upper-40°Fs, and with this weekends' temps in the lower-60°Fs, due to the warm front moving thru, from the south, and bringing warmer temps along with it, the typical Fall weather "bounces" are already in-play. I kind of like seeing frost, in-the-fields, as I drive to work, each morning. And I particularly enjoyed t-storms and rain on Saturday, although "Severe Weather Warnings" were quickly posted around 3-4pm, for heavy rains, severe winds and flood warnings. I kept a watch for any/all three, but only saw the heavy rains in East York, where I live.

On last Saturday's rainy, cold afternoon, I again noticed that gas prices at the pump, had dropped another 12¢. Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $2.39/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $2.49/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is at $2.69/gal, with Diesel at $3.42/gal. Wowser! At this rate, we'll be under $1.00/gal, in just a few more weeks. An no one, except the ME's stinking rich, arab filth would argue that that's a bad thing. As I said last week and the week before that, ***something's going to happen*** to drive-up the price into the $4-5/gal range, very quickly. Israel attacking Iran? Iran attacking Israel? Murderous, subhuman muslim-islamist filth attacking America with nukes? Europe gets nuked? Something is coming, and I wish I knew what it was.

My back pain was bad enough on Saturday, that I went home at 1:45pm, leaving Dad with Bob, Tyler & Becky, for the final 2-3hrs. I hadn't taken any Gabapentin (300mg caps) in several days, so the pain was building-up, and I needed to take some 600-700mg of it, get horizontal on the LR couch with the heating pad, and rest for a few hours, which I did. By 7pm, I was feeling better, made some dinner, and went to sleep. I was up several times during the night, to "water Murphy-The-Cat", and slept nicely until 8:30am, on Saturday. I made a 3-high stack of French Toast, and some Starbuck's French Roast (extra bold caffeine) Coffee, and left for work, by 10:15am.

Sunday was a drop-dead beautiful day: low humidity, "severe clear" skies (much like Tuesday, 9-11), and temps in the low-60°Fs. Perfect Fall weather, IMO. I however, wasn't anywhere near perfect that day. I woke-up with a raging 101.7 fever, pounding headache, sweats & chills, nausea, and aches/pains in every muscle, bone and joint in my body. It sure felt like the flu, but since I've not had the flu in ~10 years, I was only guessing at that point. Sure "felt like it", from what I remember. My immune system has always assiduously-protected me, and without the questionable benefit of seasonal flu shots. I called Dad to let him know I wasn't coming-in, managed to "keep-down" some Jell-O, took 3 aspirin and went back to sleep. By 2pm, the fever had subsided, but the aches/pains were still there, and I walked down the street to get my week's mail at the condo's community mailbox. The fresh air smelled and felt good. I called my Office's answering machine, to leave Alan, Jennifer & Bob a message for the following Monday morning, that I was down with the flu, and probably wouldn't be into work until 12noon or shortly therefter.

I took a mice, leisurely walk around the block, in the Carriage Hill Condo complex, to get my mail from the community mailbox, and to get some fresh air, on mid-Sunday afternoon. Then, I remembered that I needed to get some smokes, and drove down the hill to Rutter's to get some Marlboros and OJ. Temps were in the low-60°Fs, bright and sunny, low humidity and lots of people out-and-about, and I enjoyed the 15-min ride, to and from the store. I took numerous 324mg aspirin, drank OJ, and went to sleep around 8pm. Rest is what I sorely-needed.

I was into work by 10:45am on Monday, after making a coffee/cigarette-stop on the way-in, and immediately-began work on the second of two final LSCP Estimates, which James had emailed to me, on Saturday. I didn't get very far: the fever, chills etc took-over, and I nodded-off in my chair, wrapped in four layers of clothing and covered by a coat, just to keep warm. I had the first LSCP Estimate finished on Saturday, printed-out and sealed-up in the presentation package, ready-to-go to the Stewartstown (PA) P.O., on Monday; now to be Wednesday. In >15mins, I had maybe 25% of the second one finished (less-than-half of my normal speed), but not yet ready-to-mail. With 102.3° fever, I was wary that I'd made a mistake, and decided to wait to finish it, until later. It's kind of sad to know that those are the "final two" LSCP Presentation Packages which we'll have done for the 2008 Season, and that 4+ months are ahead, with no work on the desk. Oh, James and I have numerous LSCP-related Forms etc to revise, and I have numerous, Retail-related Forms, with Dad & Jennifer (nay, Bob now; darnit), to get ready for the 2009 Retail Season. I have a slew of Corporate Website Pages to update, many new pics to incorporate, a customer's water garden movie to embed, Open House ads and postcard mailers to get ready, a decision on whether I'm even going to go ahead with the "Roots & Shoots" Newsletter for Spring, or just do the ads and postcard mailer, plus some :15sec radio spots. I quit The Weather Channel 'Crawl', on October 1st, after 18 years of owning that venue, but for the past 5-7 years, and a cost of $1,320/month, it just wasn't producing any "tangible results" for my business. Lots and lots and lots to think about and do, over the Winter months. Except for a simple Verizon White Pages listing, I've also cut-out all Yellow Pages advertising, further saving us $775/month, which can be combined with The Weather Channel's $1,320/month, to give me some nice funds to use in marketing to the upcoming BRAC relocations at APG, and in numerous other markets. In light of the US Economy's massive financial tanking, I have to explore other areas, and with my new marketing firm's able assistance, I will aggressively do so. To top all of that "minor stuff-off", I also have to completely re-design my Corporate Website, some 900+ pages deep, at some point. I'm undecided right now. Do I revamp the entire thing, or start over and gradually add the completed pages, back-in? I really need to convert it into CSS-xHTML (Cascading Style Sheets-Extensible HyperText Mark-Up Language), and get it away from simple HTML, and into the 21st century. According to the W3C Consortium, if I'm reading the "future of the Web" correctly, all HTML-based sites will gradually-disappear as their simple HTML is replaced and that once-standard language is fully-deprecated, degraded and unavailable to many visitors' browsers, in a decreasing number of years. www.gdnctr.com is such a vast site, that it's almost impossible to do a "simple conversion" to CSS-xHTML. Hmmm, lots to think about and lots to do, over the Winter months. I decided to go home around 2:15pm, take some aspirin, drink lots of water/OJ, and get into bed, for the rest of the day, hoping that Tuesday would be better, and that I could function at something near 50%, instead of this pathetic, flu-afflicted level of sub-performance. Yuk.

Just as I was getting ready to go upstairs to sleep, I got another call (3rd one in >one week) from a "pollster", asking ~26 questions about the election, the candidates, their views and my opinions. I gave the poor guy an earful, and he typed as fast as he could, but had to stop me several times, and retrace my answers for his survey. I could hear his fingers pecking-away in the background, and I tried to me merciful, when he asked my opinion(s) about socialist-Marxist-commie sambo POS, Hussein Obama-Osama-Lama-Ding-Dong (Nigga-IL) & shit-for-brainless, Joey "Hairplugs" Biden (PLAGIARIST-DE) vs John McCain & Sarah Palin. Poor guy's fingers were smoking, trying to type to my answers. Ha! >3 minutes later, I got another call, this one automated, from Newt Gingrich, and I hung-up, and went upstairs to sleep. Enough of the political crap; I've had it.

The Winter season's first potent Nor'easter Storm, blew- up the eastern seaboard on Monday evening, and continued through the night, and I heard "horizontal rain" pounding against the windows and skylights. It woke-me-up several times during the night, and was still raging on Tuesday morning, with 45-50mph winds, all-day. The *Severe Storm/ Severe Wind Warnings*, were up all day, and in effect until mid-day, Wednesday. 2-3ft of snow in the Poconos and in the northern areas of NJ & NY; New England was getting pounded on Tuesday, and the snow was flying fast and furious, the weather stations, reported. To the south of us, North Carolina was also getting record cold and snowfall. It's very, very unusual to have a Nor'easter Storm, in anytime other than the Winter months, from December through March, or so. I's predicted an "early Winter", many weeks ago, in these "Journal" pages, and was gently-chided by my Key Staff, LSCP Foreman and others. As usual, I'm always right, as I've been in previous years, when making such predictions, as few and far between as they've been. I watch "weather trends" at The National Weather Service and several other weather-related sites. Pretty simple, really.

I slept-in on Tuesday, until 11:30am, and even with the condo's thermostat set at 83°F, I was still (((shivering))). I had dressed with 4-layers of clothing, just to try to keep warm. Even my super-duty-heavy, Turksh Bathrobe, wasn't quite-enough to mitigate the shivering, before I dressed in street garb. My body temp had dropped from 102°F, down to 99.3°F, but I felt "physically-drained" from the past two days' (Sunday & Monday) flu fever. I went out for a short drive, and a breath of fresh air, despite the rain and cold weather, but was feeling a bit "rocky" from the fever, so I cut that trip short, so as not to get into an accident, or worse.

After getting back into the condo, I had a number of "chores" to get done, and quickly-completed them. Since I'd postponed my cleaning lady & her husband's usual Tuesday's appointment, I did some of her/her husband's chores, and left the most of them, for them to finish-up when they finally get here, later in the week. I'd also forgotten to set-out the garbage bags from the previous week, on Monday evening, for early (6am) Tuesday morning pick-up, so I had multiple bags piling-up, and which I'll take down to my business, for storage and pick-up, before next Tuesday. No biggie.

I called Dad on Tuesday, around 1pm, to check-in and let him know that I'd be in on Wednesday, at 8am, as usual. It was a quiet past 2-3 days there, he said; Mom's medical appointments, which he and Becky had taken her to, at The Hershey Medical Center Complex, were okay (she's going to have back surgery), and I'm hoping that solves her back pain problems.

Getting back to work on Wednesday, wasn't easy. I was still pretty "rocky, drained & weak", from the constant high fever and lack of food — 2½ days on only Jell-O will do that — but I couldn't keep anything else down. Just the thought of food made me sick, again. I had a pile of paperwork on my desk to get caught up with, and a number of "problems" to handle at the GC&N, which I promptly did. I finished-up the last of the LSCP Estimates, worked on LSCP Billing, fielded dozens of calls, juggled appointments into next week until I feel better, and left around 3;15pm. We went on Winter Hours (Mon - Sat, 10am - 3pm; Closed Sunday), as of Monday, but as long as we have work, the LSCP Crew/ Key Staff will keep their 8am-3pm hours, to get it all done. We've still got a "veritable shitload boatload" of nursery stock left to put away, but we'll get it done, hopefully before the nasty Winter weather sets-in. Speaking of which, I drove through a nasty snow squall (~½", but no accumulation), on the way home Wednesday, and it looked to be some of the "lake effects snow" being carried By some very strong 45-50mph winds, into this area. It was snowing lightly (again, no accumulation) when I got home, and continued off-and-on and mixed with rain, for the next 2hrs. Winter's not far-off, I'm telling you. I "know these things"; I just do.

Sister Becky left for SF on Thursday morning; Dad drove her to Harrisburg Int'l Airport (HIA), at 5am for her direct flight, and she'll once-again be back in mid-April for The 19th Annual Open House, on Saturday, April 18th. She and Jennifer/Bob got the 4 retail GHs prepped for Winter storage, and we'll soon be moving thousands of pieces of nursery stock inside.

Since I was "off", albeit sick with the flu on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday, I decided not to take my usual Thursday off, since "things" had piled-up on my desk over those past 3 days, and I went-in at 8am. I'm glad that I did, as I had numerous "piles of stuff" to finish-up — LSCP Billing, appointments to re-schedule and new ones to schedule, and many phonecalls to return — I hate "piles of stuff", piling-up, don't you? Anyway, everything has been completed and mailed as of Thursday, and life is good, once more.

Are We Really Going To Do This?

John McCain believes in protecting and defending America, as it is. B. Hussein Obama-Osama-Lama-Ding-Dong (Nigga-IL) tells the world he is ashamed of America and wants to change it into something else. McCain stands for American exceptionalism, the belief that American values are superior to tyrannies. Obama stands for the expiation of America's original sin in oppressing black people, the third world and the poor. There are many in the west for whom all this is music to their ears. Whether through wickedness, ideology, stupidity or derangement, they firmly believe that the ultimate source of conflict in the world derives at root from America and Israel, whose societies, culture and values they want to see emasculated or destroyed altogether. They are drooling at the prospect that an Obama presidency will bring that about. The rest of us can't sleep at night.

Okay; here we go with some of my fears.

Are we really going to elect a President whose political career started at his terrorist friends Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn's house? Friends who are unrepentant of their domestic terrorist activities; activities which included bombing the U.S. Capitol Building and attempting (unsuccessfully, thank God) to kill U.S. servicemen during a dance at Fort Dix.

Are we really going to elect a President who is comfortable with Jeremiah Wright's hate filled sermons? Comfortable enough to attend Wright's Trinity United Church for twenty years.

Are we really going to elect a President who has radical anti-Israel friends and associates like Rashid Khalidi?

Are we really going to elect a President who practiced Chicago politics and traded political favors to convicted felon Tony Rezko for a deal on his mansion? I could continue with these questions regarding the individuals he chooses to associate with, but the key question is:

Are we really going to elect a President who seems most comfortable around anti-American radicals and criminals?

Are we really going to elect a President who believes the appropriate role of government is to "spread the wealth"? Have we really reached a point in America where we are willing to embrace class warfare as a successful campaign strategy?

Are we really going to elect a President who is going to expand the federal budget by almost one-trillion dollars in a time of financial crisis and growing deficits?

Are we really going to elect a President who has requested almost one million dollars a day in earmarks during his short Senate tenure (totaling $932 million dollars) and receives a 22 lifetime rating (out of 100) from Citizens Against Government Waste?

Are we really going to elect a President who is going to raise taxes during a recession? He would be following Herbert Hoover's example in this respect, please see the period after the Hoover presidency for evidence on the efficacy of this approach.

Are we really going to elect a President who believes that the question of life is "above his paygrade"? Catholic scholar Robert Geroge accurately descirbes Obama as "the most extreme pro-abortion candidate to have ever run on a major party ticket".

Are we really going to elect a President who is supported by only by only 23 percent of our servicemen and women versus his opponent, a veteran, who is supported by 68 percent?

Are we really going to elect a President who has shown a shocking and consistent disregard for the free speech rights of those who dare to oppose him? This link goes to a great article which I highly recommend reading.
