the death of the middle class in America has become so painfully obvious that now even the New York Times is doing stories about it.
#1 You don't have to ask major U.S. corporations if the middle class is dying. This fact is showing up plain as day in their sales numbers. The following is from a recent New York Times article entitled "The Middle Class Is Steadily Eroding. Just Ask the Business World".
In Manhattan, the upscale clothing retailer Barneys will replace the bankrupt discounter Loehmann’s, whose Chelsea store closes in a few weeks. Across the country, Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants are struggling, while fine-dining chains like Capital Grille are thriving. And at General Electric, the increase in demand for high-end dishwashers and refrigerators dwarfs sales growth of
mass-market models.
As politicians and pundits in Washington continue to spar over whether economic inequality is in fact deepening, in corporate America there really is no debate at all. The post-recession reality is that the customer base for businesses that appeal to the middle class is shrinking as the top tier pulls even further away.
#2 Some of the largest retailers in the United States that once thrived by serving the middle class are now steadily dying. Sears and J.C. Penney are both on the verge of bankruptcy, and now we have learned that Radio Shack may be shutting down another 500 stores this year.
#3 Real disposable income in the United States just experienced the largest year over year drop that we have seen since 1974.
#4 Median household income in the United States has fallen for five years in a row.
#5 The rate of homeownership in the United States has fallen for eight years in a row.
#6 In 2008, 53 percent of all Americans considered themselves to be "middle class". In 2014, only 44 percent of all Americans consider themselves to be "middle class".
#7 In 2008, 25 percent of all Americans in the 18 to 29-year-old age bracket considered themselves to be "lower class". In 2014, an astounding 49 percent of them do.
#8 Incredibly, 56 percent of all Americans now have "sub prime credit".
#9 Total consumer credit has risen by a whopping 22 percent over the past three years.
#10 The average credit card debt in the United States is $15,279.
#11 The average student loan debt in the United States is $32,250.
#12 The average mortgage debt in the United States is $149,925.
#13 Overall, U.S. consumers are $11,360,000,000,000 in debt.
#14 The U.S. national debt is currently sitting at $17,263,040,455,036.20, and it is being reported that is has grown by $6.666 trillion during the Obama years so far. Most of the burden of servicing that debt is going to fall on the middle class (if the middle class is able to survive that long).

#15 According to the Congressional Budget Office, interest payments on the national debt will nearly quadruple over the next ten years.
#16 Back in 1999, 64.1 percent of all Americans were covered by employment-based health insurance. Today, only 54.9 percent of all Americans are covered by employment-based health insurance.
#17 More Americans than ever find themselves forced to turn to the government for help with health care. At this point, 82.4 million Americans live in a home where at least one person is enrolled in the Medicaid program.
#18 There are 46.5 million Americans that are living in poverty, and the poverty rate in America has been at 15 percent or above for 3 consecutive years. That is the first time that has happened since 1965.
#19 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the number of Americans on food stamps has gone from 32 million to 47 million.
#20 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the percentage of working age Americans that are actually working has declined from 60.6 percent to 58.6 percent.
#21 While Barack Obama has been in the White House, the average duration of unemployment in the United States has risen from 19.8 weeks to 37.1 weeks.
#22 Middle-wage jobs accounted for 60 percent of the jobs lost during the last recession, but they have accounted for only 22 percent of the jobs created since then.
#23 It is hard to believe, but an astounding 53 percent of all American workers make less than $30,000 a year in wages.
#24 Approximately one out of every four part-time workers in America is living below the poverty line.
#25 According to the most recent numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, an all-time record 49.2 percent of all Americans are receiving benefits from at least one government program each month.
#26 The U.S. government has spent an astounding 3.7 trillion dollars on welfare programs over the past five years.
#27 Only 35 percent of all Americans say that they are better off financially than they were a year ago.
#28 Only 19 percent of all Americans believe that the job market is better than it was a year ago.
As if the middle class didn't have enough to deal with, now here comes Obamacare.
As I have written about previously, Obamacare is going to mean higher taxes and much higher health insurance premiums for middle class Americans.
Not only that, but millions of hard working Americans are going to end up losing their jobs or having their hours cut back thanks to Obamacare. For example, a fry cook named Darnell Summers recently told Barack Obama directly that he and his fellow workers "were broken down to part time to avoid paying health insurance".
And the Congressional Budget Office now says that Obamacare could result in the loss of 2.3 million full-time jobs by 2021.
Several million people will reduce their hours on the job or leave the workforce entirely because of incentives built into President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday.
That would mean job losses equal to 2.3 million full-time jobs by 2021, in large part because people would opt to keep their income low to stay eligible for federal health care subsidies or Medicaid, the agency said. It had estimated previously that the law would lead to 800,000 fewer jobs by that year.
But even if we got rid of Obamacare tomorrow, that would not solve the problems of the middle class.
The middle class has been shrinking for a very long time, and something dramatic desperately needs to be done.
The numbers that I shared above simply cannot convey the level of suffering that is going on out there on the streets of America today. That is why I also like to share personal stories when I can. Below, I have posted an excerpt from an open letter to Barack Obama that a woman with a Master's degree and 30 years of work experience recently submitted to the Huffington Post. What this formerly middle class lady is having to endure because of this horrible economy is absolutely tragic.
'Dear Mr. President,
I write to you today because I have nowhere else to turn. I lost my full time job in September 2012. I have only been able to find part-time employment – 16 hours each week at $12 per hour – but I don't work that every week. For the month of December, my net pay was $365. My husband and I now live in an RV at a campground because of my job loss. Our monthly rent is $455 and that doesn't include utilities. We were given this 27-ft. 1983 RV when I lost my job.
This is America today. We have no running water; we use a hose to fill jugs. We have no shower but the campground does. We have a toilet but it only works when the sewer line doesn't freeze – if it freezes, we use the campground's restrooms. At night, in my bed, when it's cold out, my blanket can freeze to the wall of the RV.
We don't have a stove or an oven, just a microwave, so regular-food cooking is out. Recently we found a small toaster oven on sale so we can bake a little now because eating only microwaved food just wasn't working for us. We don't have a refrigerator, just an icebox (a block of ice cost about $1.89). It keeps things relatively cold. If it's freezing outside, we just put things on the picnic table.'

A Day In The Life
I slept-in until almost 7am on Friday, remembering full-well that I had to get to Matt's Spartan Computer's new store opening, by 9:30. After turning-up the heat, grabbing my Turkish Bathrobe, I made French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee, and Fresh-Squeezed OJ w/ lots of pulp, checked the weather and news websites, scanned a heavy email download. I had a quick breakfast of Fried Ham Hash, Sunny-Side-Up Eggs & Ancho Catsup, took a shower, got ready and gathered-up my folders and briefcase for my next few meetings and "to do list", after the grand opening. Cloudy, rainy and 57°F, I had some perennials to get into the ground at the Condo, after I got back, and a few final Condo chores to finish-up. I left East York at 9:15, made it to the ribbon-cutting in West York, despite the heavy Friday traffic, stayed 20mins, made a few

In between doing some cleaning and listening to Rush, I installed the 3 Dianthus "Fire Witches" perennials outside my front door, but there are *so many* perennials yet to come up thru the fresh mulch, I'm thinking that I may have to move some things around. I'll have to wait until new shoots pop-up to see where I have some open spaces. I may even have to move the 3 small perennials I just planted, if they get overpowered by the other perennials. Just have to wait and see, what comes up, and where. By 3pm, the rains arrived and I quit working in the gardens, and finished-up the inside work. I listened to the morning's missed Chris Plante Show Podcast until 6, and the usual Mark Levin Show until 9pm, and then switched over to the John Batchelor Show, from 9-10:45pm, while I worked on some paperwork. I closed-down, armed the place and went up to get some sleep; maybe I'll sleep-in a little later, tomorrow.
Up at 7:30am on Saturday, it was already sunny, 49°F, and I felt like crap with congested breathing and coughing. After some OJ, coffee, aspirin and an English Muffin, I felt a little better.
With the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Washington (DC) – their weather's usually 2-3 weeks ahead of us – I decided to go out for a 2hr walk around the Complex and adjoining neighborhood, just as temps hit 73°F. Not much widespread color yet, except a few early Okame cherries, but in a few days, many trees/shrubs should pop into serious color in the York area. By 5:30pm, it was still 61°F outside, I was hungry and heated-up some fresh Chinese food, watched some prepper/military YT videos, worked-up a food shopping list for the mid-morning trip, and called it a day around 10:30pm.
Sunday at 6:30am was another cloudy, warm (54°F) morning – it's been so warm I haven't had the heat on since briefly on Friday morning – and I just made coffee and OJ, skipped
I overslept on Monday, until 7:30am, and had to hurry to get coffee, OJ made, and skipped breakfast. 63°F outside already. I needed to pick-up Dad at 9:15, and get to the CPA's offices by 10, to get our tax forms signed and sent into the IRS. I hate this last minute filing crap. After checking the weather and news sites, scanning email, I grabbed a quick shower, took a banana along to eat, and left at 9am. The pounding rain on the skylights and windows woke me at 6:30am on Tuesday, so I just got up. It sounded like a monsoon out there. After firing-up the computer and checking the weather sites, we were right in the beginnings of a massive stormfront moving north and another moving east, with bitter cold and snow right behind it. I turned-off the AC, and at 62°F outside, turned-on a burst of heat to take the chill off of the place. After OJ and coffee, Eggs Benedict hit-the-spot, and I scanned the morning's news sites. The cleaning ladies – JoAnne & Rhonda – arrived at 8:4am, and I left at 9:15 for Dad's, to scan and check his laptop computer and external drive, for any problems with HeartBleed Virus, get him set back up to write checks and pay bills through his QuickBooks and Banking software apps, and do some cleaning before my cleaning ladies go to his home, next week. I also worked on his computer's update/patch downloads from MS and Norton 360, uninstalled a number of programs from the Control Panel, which had installed themselves surreptitiously, re-booted and turned it over to him. I left at 11:30, and the rain continued. After a Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup for lunch, I worked on paying some bills, filing and other paperwork, while listening to the morning's missed Chris Plante Show Podcast until 6pm. Temps started dropping quickly as the stormfront moved up the coast; from 67°F to 43°F in 3 hours. From 6-9pm, I listened to Mark Levin Show, temps had dropped to 35°F, and I watched "Justified" Season 5 Episodes "Restitution" and "Starvation" until 12:30am. We had some snow squalls, but nothing stuck; I quit around 12:45,
Wednesday morning was sunny and clear, and I slept-in until 7:30, glad that I'd kept the extra blankets on my bed. I grabbed the heavy, Turkish bathrobe, fired-up the furnace, made coffee and had some Del Monte® Red Grapefruit, checked the weather and new sites, scanned a light email load, and tried to shake-off the grogginess from sleeping too late. 29°F outside and I'd bet a lot of peoples' tender annuals, vegs took a real beating. I made English Muffins & Pork Sausage Gravy for breakfast, and finished writing some checks, getting them ready-to-go into the mail today. I got ready and left at 10:15 for a local convenience store to get a few items, and stop at the Springettsbury USPS PO, to mail-off a pile of bills coming due. Barely 33°F, it was nice and crisp, and the blooming trees and shrubs didn't seem the worse-for-wear from yesterday's t-storms and last night's sub-freezing temps. Tonite was forecast to be also in the freezing range, with much warmer temps coming toward the weekend. Back by 11:30, I went out for a walk up to Rocky Ridge State Park, and back by 12:30pm. For lunch, I had a simple BLT Fried Egg-&-Cheese Sandwich, and worked on re-drawing my Sister's Condo's front/back landscape plans, from the original scale masters I'd made weeks ago. She needs to finalize them and present to the Condo HOA, for approval, before her landscaper can take over and begin work. We still have a couple of site meetings next Monday with him, and then we a visit to a small, specialized nursery I found, about 1 hour east of York, and then I'm turning it all over to her and the landscaper.
Thursday was another clear, cold (26°F) morning and, after sleeping until 7:30am, I warmed-up the Condo, made coffee and had some Del Monte® Cling Peaches, an English Muffin and checked email, the weather and news sites. My right eye's floaters were bothering me, constantly watering and making it difficult to focus. I have an Ophthalmologist (MD) appointment next week, for it. The Rite Aid pharmacy in Stewartstown left a voice message that 4 Rx refills were ready for pick-up. They can wait until next week when I'm down in
Tomorrow starts a new week here in the "Journal", and it's going to be a busy week, with Good Friday and Easter Sunday, my Sister's landscape project taking several days to get the design, plant purchase and boulder selection phases completed, and hopefully a visit to my friend, Sherry's home, to see what I can help her with. And a Happy Easter to you and yours!

Well, the dipshits at DHS finally admitted a long-suppressed report that the mentally-ill NORKS could easily launch an EMP attack with their existing missile system, on the US, from the south. Surprised? Don't be.
Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs. It is called the Center of Military History. It is located 30 minutes outside Washington, D.C., at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. The building itself is very nondescript.
But behind a series of highly alarmed doors and long, cement, camera-laden hallways. It is the highly sophisticated, climate-controlled treasure room where the army keeps its most precious artifacts.
The facility was built for $24 million in 2010. The cavernous warehouse is typically shrouded in total darkness. Motion lights illuminate only the areas in which someone is walking.
If I could get tickets, I'd fork over my first-born child. Oh wait; I don't have one. Heh. I'd go there in a heartbeat.
Some People Just Need Killing

Society's innocents — our precious, defenseless children and the frail, defenseless elderly — must be protected from predators, murderers, rapists, robbers and other subhuman filth, at all times and at any cost, IMO.
