like most Americans, I am deeply disturbed by the recent mass murder of school children in Newtown, CT. Naturally, I am anguished and in search of hard answers and elusive solutions.
Guns are not the problem; criminals with evil in their hearts and mentally-ill people prone to violence, are.
Recently, mentally-ill liberal idiots posing as "gun control advocates", have happily and gleefully seized this Sandy Hook School tragedy as an opportunity to forward their longstanding communist/fascist/socialist agenda, and other related "damp fantasies", which include the prohibition of "high capacity ammunition magazines" (NOT to be confused with "ammunition clips"), those evil right-wing "gun show loopholes" and scary "assault weapons" semiautomatic firearms (NOT to be confused with military-grade "assault rifles" or military "assault guns").

Personally, I value my God-given 2nd Amendment Right to both defense of self and home, as guaranteed by our US Constitution, and recently confirmed by two Supreme Court rulings, in DC and Chicago.

In public, I carry concealed (PA-CCW 1989), a semiautomatic handgun, equipped with multiple, simple 8-round magazines, for the defense of myself and Family. I keep and bear these arms proudly, conscientiously and in accordance with federal and state law. Millions of my fellow Americans do likewise, day in and day out, year after year. That a troubled, selfish lunatic, mentally-disturbed shooter would violate numerous sensible public safety laws – including those prohibiting murder – and use a firearm – any firearm – to criminally destroy innocent life is an unspeakable tragedy. Yet millions of Americans responsibly keep semiautomatic firearms in accordance with state and federal law and Constitutional 2nd Amendment immunity. The laws currently being proposed by perennial, shit-for-brains "gun control" advocate idiots would regulate behavior of the very people who have been responsible and law-abiding all their lives. Misguided, inappropriate, and ineffective.
By joining those who blame firearms, and by extension, Americans who support and value our Right To Keep & Bear Arms (RTKBA), you not only misplace blame on millions of Americans, but you lose the opportunity to focus on meaningful issues, such as our identification and treatment of mentally-ill people. By making guns and gun owners scapegoats for blame, you risk stigmatizing and alienating millions of law-abiding Americans. I am not only troubled by your false accusations, I am angered, outraged and just flat-out, pissed-off!
The real issues surrounding this tragic event in Newtown, CT, are myriad and complex. People are rightly-outraged, and rightly-calling for "something" to be done. I demand that you take care and caution when considering among the possible legislative reactions, and to ensure that any and all proposed solutions further our interest in prevention of such tragedies, without misplacing blame and alienating millions of Americans who are blameless for this, and other, murderous acts. Policy formulated out of irrational emotional response, will solve nothing.

A Day In The Life
Friday was a cold 29°F, rainy day; I was up at 6:15am, after a better night's sleep. I turned-up the heat, grabbed my Turkish Bathrobe, made some fresh Fresh-Squeezed OJ w/ lots of pulp, French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee (from whole, freshly-ground Dunkin' Donuts® beans) with my Chemex® Drip System and Eggs Benedict Florentine w/ Hash Browns, for breakfast. By 10am, I'd warmed-up the Jeep, and left to visit Dad. It started raining as I was on my way home, around 12noon. After a Grilled Cheese w/Ham Sandwich & Potato Salad for lunch, I stayed inside for the rest of the day, watched some CATV and listened to Talk Radio. It was a good night to just stay-put, listen to some WITF-FM Classical Music, and find out about Meals In A Jar.

Truth be told, I suspect the manufacturers of hi-cap mags are waiting for the illegal and unConstitutional AWB to occur, so they can gauge their immediate and future production. I have plenty of magazines for all of my firearms, except for my .50cal Beowulf (Alexander Arms), so I ordered another 10 x 10-rnd magazines. Shipping date within 7-10 days, via FedEx. I listened to the past week's Chris Plante Show Podcast until 9:45pm. I needed to get-up at 5:45am tomorrow, to get to Weis Market and Giant Foods Supermarket, both in East York, by 7:30am. My shopping list was prepared and I had some other stops planned-out, too.

Monday was a bit different; I slept-in until 7:30am, made coffee, OJ and some Soft-Boiled Eggs w/ Toast in a bowl, and checked the news and weather sites. Since Monday's mu usual "laundry day", I changed linens, did 3 loads, some vacuuming and cleaned-out the Jeep in-between laundry stuff. Although drizzly and dreary, temps rose to 52°F, so after calling Dad to talk, I went out for a 1¼-hr walk around the area. Back by 12noon, I made a Chicken Salad Sandwich on a Croissant, a bowl of Cream of Cauliflower Soup, and worked on some more paperwork. By 9:30pm, I'd listened to all the usual Talk Radio Shows in the background, and scanned the Accu-Weather site's monthly forecast, to gauge my next visit to the GC&N Complex, to prep it for the coming/forecast cold weather and snow. I needed sleep by 10:30pm.
Up at 7:15am on Tuesday, to a "balmy" 38°F, I turned-up the heat, made coffee, Del Monte® Red Grapefruit Sections, and Ham and Egg Crepe Squares for breakfast. While scanning the weather and news sites, I saw the weather maps
Tuesday night/Wednesday morning was one of the worst I'd had in a long while. The phone rang 3-4x (can't remember) during the night; no one there. I heard several loud noises in the Condo, and took my Kimber® 1911 Stainless "Custom TLE™ II" .45cal ACP, LED flashlight and laser to investigate; nothing. And it poured/sleeted/snowed; but there was no snow on the ground. By 3:15am, I had a headache, got-up to take some aspirin, turned-on the lights and stayed-up. Finally, I had the best 7½-8hrs of sleep I've had in many weeks, and woke-up Thursday morning at 8:15. After coffee, Del Monte® Mandarin Oranges, and a bowl of Frosted Flakes, I left for the Garden Center at 10, to check overall security, change any burnt-out outside lightbulbs, and check the water pipes' heat lamps. I did a walk-around of all of the buildings and GHs; all were A-OK, so I left for home, at 11am. My friend and former employee, Lee, stopped by at 12:30pm, just as I finished lunch, and we caught-up on recent events, plus his deteriorating lower back/sciatica medical condition. Temps had only made it to 38°F, so I put the garbage out curbside (new pick-up day is now Friday), garaged the Jeep, and stayed-in for the day.

Winter weather advisories for the Southeast were posted, and they're getting hammered again by snow and ice. The snow/ice was to our north and southwest, but we were only getting rain, at this point. Better them than us, I guess. I listened to the Mark Levin Show, until 9pm, while working on some paperwork and paying bills. I shut-down around 10, as I needed to go visit Dad early tomorrow, get Alan's "new computer" ready for him to pick-up, and be home the rest of the day for a scheduled FedEx delivery. Friday also begins a new week here in the "Journal", and I've got a couple of "interesting projects" on the front-burners, to work on and complete.

"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virgina. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs.
