Temps last week and weekend were amazing: in the upper 60s and low-70s, with nighttime temps in the 40s. The Farmer's Almanac was right on the money, again. I took the storm windows off of the GC&N Complex, threw open the doors and windows, and aired-out the Winter smells. It was nice to work in shirtsleeves, for a change.
With 70°F temps on Saturday and Sunday, and 78°F on Monday, the numbers of people visiting and calling the GC&N Complex was heavy and very unsual for so early in March, weather notwithstanding. The fact that we're having an "early Spring", isn't debatable.
Though we're barely-ahead of schedule in getting the GC&N Complex into the 21st century, I'm still finding minor, annoying "glitches and bugs" in our Synchronics® CounterPoint™ installation, but Mark, our CounterPoint™ Rep/Tech from J&M Systems LLC, is readily available to fix them. Receipt printers and cash drawers are working fine. Barcoding software and hardware is installed and working fine. My front counter employees are readily adapting to all the new hardware and software changes.

The first load of Spring nursery stock arrived Wednesday, from Mountain Creek Nursery, in Tennessee. Iseli Nursery is scheduled to arrive next week, as is Piedmont Nursery. The other 15 or so growers' semis will be arriving shortly thereafter. All told, we'll have about 20 tractor trailers coming up the driveway to deliver before April 5th. All too soon, we'll be going off Winter Hours, and onto Spring-Summer-Fall Hours of operation. Sigh. I'm going miss having Sundays off, and going into work around 10am.
Despite the warmer-than-usual temps in both the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Regions, gas prices at-the-pumps increased another 10¢ this week: Unleaded Regular is now at $2.35/gal, Unleaded Plus at $2.45/gal, and Unleaded Premium at $2.65/gal. Diesel fuel increased to $2.76/ gal. Kerosene (K2 heating oil) has also risen to $2.79/ gal. I predict we'll see $3-plus gas by mid-Summer. Remember: it's not so-called "Big Oil" raising the prices, it's the federal, state and local taxes which continually drive-up the price of gas at the pump.
