A Day In The Life
I got up at 4:30am on Friday to feed & water Murphy, scanned the weather and news sites, found Mom's Obituary in the local newspaper, made Breakfast and French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee (from whole, freshly-ground beans) with my Chemex® Drip System. Large t-storms were gathering just to the west and the mid-80s were forecast.
My realtor just called and gave me the bad news: the local church who was the #1 prospective buyer for my 20-acre GC&N Business Complex, has now dropped-out, due to internal congregation problems and financing problems. I just knew that was coming; don't ask me how, but I still gave them the unending benefit of the doubt. I would love to have seen the Church get the property, but it just wasn't to be. No more; we now move on to formal soil testing (examples of soil testing etc) and to the US & PA Winery Industries and beyond, as our primary market opportunities. No more wasting time or money.
I just noticed this article on local Fox 43's website about the lowlife Strathmeyer Forests Co using criminal, illegal aliens for their landscaping crews. I fed/watered Murphy several times, grilled a Hamburger & Roasted Potatoes for lunch, did some basement clean-up and reorganization, cleaned my Condo's trusty Char-Broil® Patio Grille, ran some errands in the t-storms, worked-up an appetite and grilled a Filet Mignon, Asparagus w/ Fresh Hollandaise, Roasted Potatoes w/ Sour Cream for an early dinner. I was up at 3:15am on Saturday morning, during the t-storms, fed & watered Murphy, and went back to sleep until 7:00. Damn, I was tired. Probably cumulative from getting up so early for so many mornings, unnecessarily. Maybe I can get into the habit soon, of sleeping later, after so many years of getting-by on just 4-5hrs of sleep. On Sunday morning, I was up at 5:30am, fed & watered Murphy, made Pancakes, some Bacon and English Muffins for breakfast with French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee (from whole, freshly-ground beans) with my Chemex® Drip System. It was drizzling, so I picked-up the past few days' mail at the Condo Assn's community mailbox, and left for the market to get what I needed for the day's lunch/dinner and for the coming week. After writing checks for bills – anyone who gives their bank account number and routing numbers to any company online, is an idiot – I walked over to the Condo's community mailbox to get them into the USPS system. That done, I drove over to see Dad & Becky for a few hours. She's leaving for SF on Wednesday morning. Showers moved through the area and temps stayed in the mid-50s. I had some errands to do and was back home by 3pm, in time to listen to the Chris Plante Replay of his 9-12am WMAL morning talk show. Becky & I spent several hours cleaning-out Mom's Kitchen, bagging/boxing-up all kinds of things which Dad'll never use, and I loaded them into my Jeep for a trip to the nearest Salvation Army Thrift Store Donation Center, on Haines Rd, in York.
After listening to Rush from 12-3pm, I replayed the Chris Plante Show, which I'd missed from 9-12pm. The heavy t-storms finally hit the area and my front street quickly-flooded as the storm drains were overwhelmed. Speaking of floods, MS deluged me with 21 Windows-7 Updates (143.3mb) at 4:30pm. It took less than 65secs to download all that, and about 5½mins to install them; #12 & #15 were h-u-g-e. There's a lot of stuff in there I didn't need, but it's for multiple Windows OS, so there's really not much choice, except to go back and uninstall some, but that could get "dicey". Best to "leave sleeping dogs alone", IMO.
Wow, I just saw a "movie notice" alerting me that Tom Selleck's 8th "Jesse Stone" TV-movie episode, "Benefit of The Doubt" (short clip preview) is on CBS, Sunday, May 20th at 9pm. I have all 7 DVDs of the "Jesse Stone" series, and DVD sets for Seasons 1 & 2 of "Blue Bloods". Yes, I'm a Tom Selleck fan – I was an extra in the 80s series "Magnum, PI" show: "Little Girl Who" (1986) in Hawaii – and I have it on Sony VHS (and Beta; yes, I still have my working Sony Super BetaMax SL-S600, too) tape, if you ever stop by for a visit and a cold one.
I skipped dinner, listened to the "Mark Levin Show" from 6-9pm EST, but tired from last night's dreams and lack of good sleep, I took a Rx 12.5mg Ambien® CR™, and then shut it all down.
Once again, I was up around 12:15am, 1:30 and again at 2:30 with weird dreams; "really weird dreams", this time. I fed Murphy at 2:45, had some Fresh-Squeezed OJ, a smoke, turned-on the Condo's heat to 76°F, and checked the various weather and news sites. It was still raining and we'd have another wet day or so, ahead. More to come. I tried to recall and make some sense of the recurring REM-sleep events. Lots of friends in them: Ben, Linda & Scott, Virginia, Scott & Lynn, Sherry, Lee, Arthur, Dave & Jacky etc. A couple of new cats and dogs, too. The heat felt good; I stopped shivering, either from the dreams or the cold Condo. Sensing something was amiss, Murphy waited patiently for me to finish and come back to bed. I did so at 3:15am. Back up at 7am, dreams over with, I made a quick breakfast of Sunnyside-up Eggs, Home Fries & Yellow Saffon Gravy and coffee, worked on Wednesday's "To Do List". It was growing large, so I shifted things into Thursday and Friday, to take some pressure off of all the traveling I'd need to do in one day.
I headed out to my new drycleaner/shirt launderer in East York, Zips $1.99 (I was impressed at their facility!), after 21 years with DeVono's in Red Lion, and then over to Weis Market to do some quick food shopping. The rains came and I stayed-in, made a Double-Decker BLT-Club Sandwich for lunch and get some overdue paperwork done. Dad had taken Becky to HIA (Harrisburg Int'l Airport) for her flight back to SF, and called with his schedule for this and next week. Becky & I stocked his 'fridge with plenty of food for the near future and I'll do his food shopping as well as helping with meals for him, both here and at his place. By 8:30pm, I was tired and shut down the computer to get some sleep. Murphy was already waiting.
