what has happened to America? Please show these numbers to anyone that does not believe that the United States is in decline. It is time for all of us to humble ourselves and face the reality of what has happened to our once great nation. For those of us that love America, it is heartbreaking to watch the foundations of our society rot and decay in thousands of different ways. A Day In The Life
I was up at 6am on Friday, with a cloudy, very cool 46°F start to the day, and it wouldn't get any better, as storms moved in from the west. After some fresh OJ and an coffee, I had an English Muffin w/ Blueberry Preserves, downloaded email and checked the usual news and weather sites. My ancient 2006 Nokia 6060 "Clamshell" cellphone was still DOA with a rejected SmartChip, and I planned a trip to the AT&T Company Store to have it checked, or to buy a new phone, if necessary. Same-o, same-o in the news, so I left at 9:30 for the West Manchester Mall, in West York. When I arrived, half the mall was torn down, missing and under construction. It's a massive, several hundred acre facility and just from the last time I was there in June, all stores except the large spaces of Walmart, Macy's and Kohl's were gone. The rain woke me at 6:30am on Saturday; just 49°F outside and a cool 66° inside the condo, so I turned on the heat for a while. After OJ and coffee, I made Soft-Boiled Eggs w/ Toast in a bowl, read thru the news and weather sites, checked email, checked my cellphone (working fine) and got ready to run some errands. The bank, cleaners and Essis Carpets & Rugs, to get Dad's beautiful 8'x5' fringed Bruska rug (now cleaned and fringe replaced) and a specially-cut, non-slip wool backing for his front door entrance. It was raining, felt colder than it was at 56°, and I needed gas for the Jeep. I drove to Dad's and we installed it back in the front hall. I left at 11:15am, got home and unloaded the starched shirts, fired-up the gas fireplace to take the chill off the condo, settled-in for the day, as the rain increased. By 11:30, I was bored with lousy YT movies, checked the local weather and noticed that we *might* get some close-to-freezing temps tonite – 34-36°F – which would effectively put an end to plant material, which had been going dormant for the past 2-3 weeks, anyway. I was fading fast, needed some sleep, closed down and was relieved to crawl into bed early. Tomorrow's laundry and cleaning day. BFD.
After a restless night, I was up at 7:30am on Sunday to a very cool 37°F day, heat on, sun coming up later and later, as the days go by. No, I don't remember the damned dreams, but I was awake 3-4x during the night, due to their vividness. The second I wake, the dream is gone. The OJ and coffee tasted good; I skipped breakfast, still 'feeling full' from yesterday's large meals. After a shower, I went out to the CHCA mailbox and got the week's mail, opened the windows as temps hit 61°, swept the garage, porch, walk and driveway free of oak leaves, and drove down to the local convenience store to get Marlboros. I started the first of 3 loads of laundry, including bed linens, threw on a Lined Barn Coat, and went out for a short walk around the neighborhood. I made a Double Decker Turkey & Ham Club Sandwich, Potato Salad and Potato Chips. In between loads, I watched some interesting YT movies: War Against Terror - Al Qaeda (44:38), and The Secret War on Terror, Parts 1-4 (52:06), and Inside the Iraq War (1:16:07), and Task Force Devil: New War on Terror (44:30).
At 6:30, I closed the windows as temps dropped into the low-50s, watched Fox News to try to get a handle on what was happening in the world. Once again, the news sucked. I switched to some NFL games, and that sucked worse. I checked my food shopping list, received one from Becky in an email, called Dad to see what he wanted to add, but he'd been food shopping Friday evening. So I was good to go on Monday or Tuesday morning. Plus, I had to lube Dad's, Becky's and my garage door rail tracks with Lithium Grease, so I'll have to pick-up a couple of extra cans. "Gun Talk Radio" is usually on from 8-11pm EDT, but their affiliate stations screwed it up, and I listened to the earlier iPod recordings, until 11:45. Hey, Monday's is the Columbus Day Holiday, when everything/nothing'll be open; just swell. I didn't bother checking the usual Conservative website thread I follow very long, since it devolved into a dead thread, due to Gun Talk's affiliates 'screwing the pooch' by not carrying the show, whose audience is in the multi-millions. By 12 midnight, I was nodding-off and fading, closed it all down, armed the condo and went up to sleep.
Sleeping-in until 8am on Monday, I'd planned to get some things done and off of my "to do list", but that all changed with a deluge of familiar email. After OJ and coffee, I checked the weather and news site, downloaded email and found a boatload from my Sister. Her iPhone crashed/locked-up, as did her iPad, and everything became an "emergency". I'll only give the brief highlights. After taking her to Lancaster to the Apple Store to get the 2 finicky iToys fixed, the Apple Tech determined that an iOS Upgrade had been installed while Becky was using the iPhone and that numerous critical files were "stepped upon and damaged", so the upgrade had to be removed and re-installed. The passing t-storm cells woke me at 6:45am on a dark Tuesday morning; cloudy and 68°F, no furnace heat needed. I had some Del Monte® Red Grapefruit Sections, an English Muffin w/ Apricot Preserves and coffee. Violent weather in the south and southeast was in the news, and it was heading our way. At least it wouldn't be snow, yet. I checked my food shopping lists, delayed from yesterday, and downloaded email. My good friend Ben, sent a link to last night's PBS-NOVA show, "Why Planes Vanish", and I watched it while having breakfast. It's been years since I watched the lefty PBS, but that was a decent show; wrong conclusion, though, IMO. There's also an extensive archive of shows to choose from. It just dawned upon me that two weeks from today is the "3rd anniversary" of Dad, Mom and me closing our Family Garden Center & Nursery Business, on Friday, October 28th, at 5pm. Truly a sad day. The contents auction followed on December 17th.
I downloaded the morning's missed Chris Plante Show/ WMAL (DC) Podcast, to listen for a while, and the usual evening Mark Levin Show was on from 6-9pm. I tried to listen to the always interesting, streaming John Batchelor Show, until 12:15am, but was nodding-off and packed it in for the night. The cleaning ladies will be here around 8:30am, and the Medicare Rep will be in the 1-5pm time slot.
Up at 5am on Wednesday, it was an unusually warm 71°F, for mid-October, and beginning to rain as the southern storms pushed north and east toward this area. I made OJ, coffee and had a muffin while going thru weather, news and email. Ben sent another PBS NOVA movie, "Surviving Ebola", which I watched with interest. Once again, there's also a very extensive archive of shows to choose from. Within minutes, MS notified me that 20 "critically-important" patch downloads were waiting and needed to be downloaded and installed. That made my 4-core CPUs go nuts on the screen's CPU Meter. Heh. It was another very warm and very humid day; 72° and the heavy, continuous rain with 40-45mph winds started just after 12:30pm, as I returned home. Rainfall measured 1.3" in my garden gauge by 3pm, and showed no sign of tapering-off. ***FLOOD WARNING*** notices were posted everywhere until 3pm on Thursday. For lunch, I had a Classic BLT w/ Avocado, chips and a Schweppes Ginger Ale. Very light and refreshing. The rain continued in torrents. I got back to reading thru Geisinger Gold Medicare, Highmark Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Medicare, and Capital Blue Cross Medicare. Piles of propaganda. By 5:30, my eyes were rolling around, and I needed a break from all that stuff. The Mark Levin Show was on from 6-9pm, and the John Batchelor Show, until 10:30pm. Then, from the impressive PBS-NOVA Archive, I watched "B-29: Frozen in Time" (53:54), until 11:45pm, closed down, armed the condo, and went up for some sleep.
By 5am on Thursday, an Ebola and EV-D68 SHTF dream had me awake, and I couldn't get back to sleep. With OJ, Breakfast and lots of coffee, I downloaded email, checked the news and weather websites for updates on rain, local flooding and the Ebola situation. While it rained outside, I spent a couple hours reviewing MediCare Plans from Geisinger and Health Mark; Capital BC/BS is out of the running due to federal/state audits, and won't be eligible to accept new patients until the November 2015 cycle, which screws me right now. I had some re-heated 3 cheese & sausage pizza slices for lunch and some strawberry ice cream. Since I'd missed the morning's Chris Plante Show and the midday Rush Limbaugh Show, I downloaded those two podcasts for later listening. The Mark Levin Show was on from 6-9pm, Fox News Megyn Kelly had a 9pm special on Ebola from 9-10pm, and the John Batchelor Show, was on until 12:30am. I shut everything down, armed the place and headed upstairs for bed.
Tomorrow starts a new week here in the "Journal", and with the 2 Medicare reps coming mid-week, a trip to Southern York County to pick-up 5 Rxs, plus a handful of other stops and errands, and some possible overdue lab work for my PCP, it'll be a fairly busy week. No telling what I'll need to help Dad and Becky with; I'll find out this weekend and try to plan for those projects. I also want to empty-out my 14.8 CuFt Frigidaire Top Loader Freezer in the garage, and re-organize it. Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia are going through the worst Ebola outbreak in history and health officials believe that it has killed more than 700 people there. Now, for the first time, Ebola has "officially" entered the United Sates via two health aid workers, that contracted the disease while working in Africa, where the Ebola outbreak continues.
Ebola virus disease (EVD), originally known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, and often times (70-90%) fatal disease in humans. Case fatality can be up to 90 percent – in other words, 90 out of every 100 people who catch Ebola die. EVD outbreaks typically occur in remote villages in Central and West Africa and are transmitted via wild animals (such as fruit bats) to humans.
The first patient landed in the United States on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Dr. Kent Brantly was then flown from Africa to the United States and then transported via ambulance to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. The second person, Nancy Whitebol, will return to the U.S. in the coming days. Many people are questioning the decision to bring the two American aid workers to the United States to be treated. According to the New York Times, Dr. Bruce S. Ribner, an infectious disease specialist at Emory and who will be caring for these patients, said, "The reason we are bringing these

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Think about it. That pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st century. Kind of makes you wonder who is doing the math.

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering...
2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't. Think about it. And last but not least...
3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to all illegal aliens?

Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs.
