By late Sunday, the Mid-Atlantic Region was beginning to feel some of the northeast leading-edge winds of Hurricane Frances, as it pushed warm and very humid air up from the Gulf Region. We caught Hurricane Tropical Storm Frances' remnants on Wednesday and Thursday, with some very heavy rain in many areas. It was much-welcomed, as we've been very dry over the past 2-3 weeks. Official total: 1½". Yikes, I didn't know that Hurricane Season extends until November 30th. Hurricane Ivan's on the way; watch out Florida!
Officially, Monday (Labor Day) marked the end of Summer, and the start of Fall. Un-officially, it's hard to tell the difference, and the starting date should be moved into October, IMO, when noticeable weather changes take place. But, I'm picking nits here, aren't I? Last Saturday and Sunday were busy retail sales day, nonetheless. Many still mistakenly believe that the Labor Day Holiday Weekend signifies the end to gardening etc, for the year. I'm working on changing that, with my once-a-year, Nursery-Wide 25% Off Sale, in September, and usually carried-over into October, because of the demand.
I closed the Garden Center Complex, took Monday (Labor Day) off — first time in 14 years — and slept-in, 'til 11:30. I'd been over to Jeff & Denise's, on Sunday evening for a wonderful dinner, excellent vino and a short (I was tired) tour de force of their new movie theater. *Freaking awesome* doesn't even begin to describe it.
