it's hard to believe that it's September already, college football is starting (no; I don't watch it), school/college has re-started, roads are clogged with yellow schoolbuses in the morning and afternoons, fall sales are underway, everywhwere and in every business, leaves are turning color, people are getting-out the rakes & leaf-blowers, thoughts are turning to Fall-planted, Spring-flowering bulbs; all that "Fall stuff", you know.
Also coming-up, around that proverbial corner, is another National General Election; a mere 67 days away, and that if we don't choose wisely, America's going to lurch precipitously to the radical, evil left, and socialism/Marxism/communism will take-over and push this great Nation back 50+ years. It will take 70-80+ years for us to recover from it; and perhaps we'll never recover from the deviancy, degeneracy and cowardice, that the lowlife dirtbag, racist, bigot, socialist, Marxist, piece-of-shit, terrorist-supporter, liar, empty-suit, do-nothing, hate-Whitey, hate-US Military, hate-America, muslim-islamic-filth, one-worlder, failed, disgraced US Sen Hussein Obama-Osama-Lama-Ding-Dong's (Nigga®-IL) damage, will do to us. There is no other choice for a sane, rational Conservative mind. Staying home and not voting isn't an option, either. The alternative is just too scary to consider yielding The White House to, when they already control the US Congress. It would destroy America, as we've known it.
The RNC's Convention is also "much ado about Sarah Palin", and it's at least not a clear and present danger, as the DNC's "Freak-fest", was. Sarah Palin was the one bright light in that "Viagara Venue", of old men and their dutiful women. Ha! I hope she re-ignites the RINO-GOPers, to take back the White House, although the corrupt, criminal US Congress is "pwned" by the liberal-demokkkRATs, communists, socialists, Marxists, eco-scumbag-filth, and so many dozens of special interest groups, whose billions/trillions of drug-sales dollars, fuel the liberal-demokkkRAT party. Awwww, liberals behaving badly? Yep. Go ahead; compare mulatto/half-breed boy, and Sarah Palin. No comparison, is there? I'm excited about Sarah Palin and the GOP's chances, now. I won't be "holding my nose and voting", anymore. I'll happily go and vote, on November 4th, now that she's on the ticket. I just hope the GOP-RINOs don't "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory", as they are wont to do.

On my way into work on Friday morning, I noticed that gas prices had gone up 6¢+, after reading this article, about gas prices rising. Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $3.45/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $3.55/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is at $3.69/gal.
About 95% of the wonderful rainfall went to the west and north of us, but the 5% we got on Thursday evening and Friday morning, was much-welcomed; just over ¾", total. (Thank You, Heavenly Father.) I had my office window open, it was quiet, and I could hear the rain pouring on the roof. Temps in the 50s & 60s. It was nice, but it wasn't nearly enough. We need 1-2 weeks of gentle rain, amounting to 4-5", to alleviate "The Unending Drought From Hell". Fat chance. My retail-purchase, installation crews were out on Friday morning and afternoon, installing customer's trees (over-the-counter retail purchases; not LSCP jobs), and they said that the rain just wasn't soaking-in; it was "dry as baby powder", just 2-3" below grade. Hmmmmm; not a good sign. That means the ground is too dry & hard to allow even a 8-10hr rainfall, to soak-in. That's not a good sign, BTW. Shit. Crap.
With all the much-needed rain on Friday, I sent everyone home and closed-up at 3:15pm; no use in sitting around for another 1½ - 2hrs, twiddling our collective thumbs, and losing money. That's not how a small business stays in business, and is profitable, IMO. There's an old saying: "When you're in a hole, stop digging". Cut the losses; shut down and go home. Tomorrow's another day. And indeed it is. We have the first of our resurrected, once-well-attended, Fall Workshops tomorrow (Saturday, August 30th), with Seth's, "Cut, Faced & Stacked-Stone Walls". There are 6 people signed-up for it, mostly from Maryland, for this Saturday's Workshop, and another 7 signed-up for the 2nd Hardscape Workshop, on October 4th: "Brick & Flagstone Patios & Walks". The calls are coming-in at the rate of 2-3 per day. The ads are working. Nice.
I shut-down the condo machine, and retired at 10pm, fully-expecting to go into my GC&N Complex, by 7:30am, so that Seth would have some extra time to get his Hardscape Workshop details ready, for his Saturday Workshop, although he'd worked in the driving rain on Friday, to get done what he'd needed, finalized. It was scheduled to start at 9am and go thru 11am, or later, so I wanted to give Seth as much "extra-wiggle room", as possible. I woke at 5am, had a smoke, fed the two condo cats, logged-on, made coffee and was up for the day. I hate getting up when it's dark; dark is for sleeping, IMO.
The fog was heavy on the ride into work. 7 of the 8 people registered, showed-up for our first Workshop: Cut, Faced & Stacked-Stone Walls, led by Seth, my Hardscape Foreman & Mason. I was impressed and pleased, as his class went very well. The humidity returned on Saturday; gaaawd, it was uncomfortable for everyone. We dripped gallons of sweat, all day long, and it lasted all week, as Hurricane Gustav (CAT 4) pushed very warm, humid air northward, throughout the east, midwest and west. Shit. Crap. I can take the heat, but I'm very uncomfortable with all the humidity, accompanying it.
I closed-down early at 4pm, on Saturday, since we're also closed on Sunday, and open again on Monday Labor Day (sigh), there was little reason to stay open, any further. Starting Sunday, September 7th, we're re-opening, from 11am - 4pm. (dbl-sigh) My idea of closing on Sundays, and trying to "force business into Saturdays", apparently didn't work, as we lost around $200,000 last year. Nope; it didn't work at all, dammit. So we'll go back to "Open On Sundays" for awhile, and try to recoup that lost, mega-bucks, weekend business income. Hey, $200k is $200k, isn't it?
On my drive into work at 6:30am, on Saturday, I quickly-noticed another 10¢ rise in gas prices, at the pump, primarily due to Hurricane Gustav, which is 2-3 days away from hitting the many oil platforms in the Gulf: Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $3.55/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $3.65/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is at $3.7/gal. I have $1,000, which says that no oil platforms will be breached and leaking oil into the Gulf waters. Any shit-for-brains, lib-dem takers? If the platforms can withstand a CAT 4-5 hurricane and not spill oil, are they not ready-for-duty in ANWR (Alaska) and OCS (outer continental shelf)? Of course they are. No question about that.
Sunday, August 31st, was my last Sunday off, before going on to the new 7-damn-days-a-damn-week schedule, so I made the most of it: up at 6am to feed the cats, make French toast, glass of milk, and back to sleep for another 5hrs. Then, food shopping. I'm going to take either Wednesday of Thursday off, starting next week, as I've already worked-out everyone else's' schedules out, except mine. Natch. I just can't physically do 7 days a week, anymore; I did it for 16 years, and then quit it 2 years ago. This is against my better judgment, but we need the Sunday income. If it doesn't pan-out, I'll revert back to "Closed on Sunday", once again. I'm just tired of working so long and so hard.

Hurricane Gustav has a lot to do with this ping-pong pricing, since dozens of oil rigs have been shut down in the Gulf, and employees evacuated. The production pipeline is very much interrupted now, for at least 1-2 weeks. As of midday Saturday, slightly more than three-fourths of the Gulf's oil production and nearly 40 per cent of its natural gas output had been shut down. We can look for another 15-20¢ rise in gas prices, during that timeframe, IMO. Shit. Crap.
Labor Day Monday? That's the National Holiday for the vast "majority of people don't work"; only a small fraction of us small business owners, do so. And we're the ones who make America *work*. So why don't we/they call it "Not-Labor Day", instead of "Labor Day"? Yes; we were open. The ride into work was "weird", kind of like being out on the roads on Christmas Morning: totally deserted. Dad, Jennifer, Bob, Jan (our newest hire for the front retail counter, and a long-time customer who knows the GC&N layout) and I, were in from 8am-1pm. I tracked Gustav most all day, and gave a "Woooooo-Hoooooo!" when I saw that "Hanna" would be coming our way. While Hurricane Gustav is pounding the Gulf States, Hurricane Hannah is heading our way, and we should get some "rainfall benefit" from it, by this weekend.
I paid a boatload of monthly bills: my condo monthly maintenance fee, Verizon Telephone, Met-Ed Electric, Columbia Gas, Comcast CATV & InterNet, York Water Co, Sanders HVAC, Sears Gold MasterCard, Fulton Bank Platinum VISA, the condo's yearly insurance policy, checked the local Fulton Bank's Company account and my personal checking/savings account balances, since I'd heard about hackers getting into bank accounts and looting-them-six-ways-to-Sunday, and pre-paid the 4th quarter taxes to save 5% with an early payment. (Personally, I believe that any hacker/cracker should be taken out to the nearest garbage dumpster, no trials/no appeals, and summarily-headshot/KILLED, and thrown into the dumpster, for permanent "inclusion in a landfill". But hey; that's just me. Any exceptions? Yes/no? Fine; then KILL THE SUBHUMAN CRIMINALS hacker/crackers! End of that problem, isn't it? Zero recidivism.)
Fine & dandy. On to the next problem(s). Since my 19-year old RCA 'fridge (w/ ice maker) evaporator isn't working anymore, and there's a fair amount of H2O pouring-out from the front of it, on a weekly basis, I'm thinking it's long-past time, to get a new, modern 'fridge. I've shopped Sears online, and found a $479 Frigidaire 18.3 CuFt Top Freezer unit (w/ ice maker), which'll work just fine. I just spent $2,772 on a Rheem-Rudd Tankless Water Heater, which is already saving me $60-75/ month in both water & electric bills vs the previous 19yrs' monthly costs. Plus, the condo's two toilets were refitted with a new 1.5gal flush, as opposed to the old 5gal flush mechanics. I figure that I'll recoup the cost of that unit in 4-5 years, but I need to get a full year of water & electric usage under my belt, before I can predict that accurately.
With Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hannah moving on to the US Mainland and up the Eastern Seaboard, very hot and humid weather was pushed ahead of the system: 90-95°F all week. It truly sucked. But I'm hoping/praying that we get 4-7" of rainfall from it. Doubt it, but what the heck. Wow, Hurricane Ike, and Tropical Storm Josephine, are headed this way, too. I double-dare them to come up here and rain on us! No complaints from me, if that happens. C'mon, Hannah. We can sure use the rainfall.
For the past 10 days, I've been taking a doctor-prescribed Rx, called Neurontin, aka generic Gabapentin, in 300mg caps. This is to alleviate the nerve pain in my back, leg, ankle and right foot. The doc's directions were: 1 - 300mg cap nightly, for 3 nights; then, 2 - 300mg caps nightly, for 3 nights; then, 3 - 300mg caps nightly, for 3 nights. If any "problems" occur when stepping-up from 300mgs to 600mgs to 900mgs, back down to the previous level, and stay there. On Wednesday night, I took 3 - 300mg caps at 7:30pm, and by 8:15, I was a zombie, and could hardly get up the stairs to bed. I'd fully-intended to watch Sarah Palin's speech to the GOP Convention, but couldn't even *see the TV*, let alone understand what was being said. My vision, hearing and balance were severely affected. I managed to *crawl* up the stairs, and get into bed, with my two condo cats, Mama Kitty and Murphy, soon joining me. I slept until 6:30am, and got back downstairs, fed them, called Alan, my LSCP Foreman and told him what'd happened, and that I wasn't coming into work. I'd just be risking a DUI, an accident or even worse. I slept for most of the day, to get that dosage out of my system, and even skipped that evening's lower 600mg dose. Whew; that was awful. I just can't handle that 900mg dosage. BUT, the pain was 99% gone, from that dose! I had almost *zero pain*, all day, Thursday. Darnit, the *absence of pain* was frigging wonderful! Too bad I can't handle it, as I'll have to revert to the more tolerable 600mg level.

I started tracking Gustav last Thursday, and all through the Labor Day Weekend. I was surprised at how big it got, so quickly: tropical depression, tropical storm, hurricane CAT 1-2-3-4-3-4, in just a few days. Millions are evacuating, unlike what happened 3 years ago, with Katrina, which caught the state and local morons, completely off-guard, even though the Bush WH warned them 5 days in advance. The storms's path is right here. 145mph winds? I'd be leaving NOLA, too!

CO2 is a useful trace gas in the atmosphere, and the planet would actually benefit by having more, not less of it, because it is not a driver for Global Warming and would enrich our vegetation, yielding better crops to feed the expanding population. My name is Timmy. I am a white Christian male heterosexual student at Bob Jones University (aka B.J.U.).
Our dear brother-in-Christ, Mr. Shelley, has graciously agreed to my guest posting on his very popular blog, "John's Journal". Mr. Shelley has become my muse and mentor and just like a father to me. I hope he can attend parents day here at B.J.U. Before composing my post, I went to the University Chapel and prayed to St. Ronald Reagan and St. Lee Atwater for wisdom and divine intercession. The following is what these conservative saints inspired me to write.
Memorial Day.
I went home this Memorial Day weekend to participate in an exorcism of my cousin, Cletus. Cletus had exhibited the classic signs of demonic possession. For example, he said nonsense like; "I am the decider" and "you're either with me, or you're with the terrorists" and "the insurgency is in it's last throes"! He was running around calling everyone who ate a falafel or put a towel over their head in the steam room a "islamofascist", whatever that is. Finally, he began to spend all his money on books by Pastor John Hagee, paying full retail plus shipping and handling charges. These are the sorts of books you can pick up at a rummage sale for 50 cents, a couple of years after they are published. By the way, Pastor Hagee will be in Washington D.C. soon to host a "love Israel - hate America" conclave. Senator Joe Liebermann, President McCain's new buddy, will be the keynote speaker. Anyway, we had to water board Cletus for the entire weekend before the demons were cast out. Sometimes it takes a village to make a man's spirit whole and free of demonic possession.
I thought I would use this sacred holiday not only to remember our war dead, but also to remember our most prominent draft dodger, Vice President Dick Cheney. Some might counter, "what about Bill Clinton?". Yes, it is true that Clinton dodged the draft once, but Vice President Cheney dodged the draft over 8 years and received 5 draft deferments. So, you see, once again Vice President Cheney has surpassed Clinton.
Vice President Cheney also surpasses Clinton in the number of heart operations received, at taxpayer expense. Cheney provides an excellent example in the argument against universal health care. This argument against universal health care is that healthy rate payers would subsidize the medical care of those who've led an unhealthy lifestyle; such as Vice President Cheney. Cheney is a heavy smoker, drinker, glutton and a sedentary person who CHOSE an unhealthy way of life. He is now "reaping" the benefits of this lifestyle through numerous heart operations.
The American taxpayers have opposed universal health care for themselves, but DO PAY for universal health care, as foreign aid, to our "ally" Israel. Israel "thanks" us for this universal health care by spying on us, violating international nuclear treaties and bending U.S. middle-eastern foreign policy to their advantage through the Israel Lobby. The Israel Lobby is truly The Enemy From Within. Neo-con "americans" in the U.S. State Department put the interest of Israel before American interests. They are aided and abetted by the "love Israel-hate America" crowd who fill our airwaves and our mega-churches. These Christian Zionists think that jesus won't come back for them unless they continue to prop up Israel, at the expense of the United States. But I digress ... back to Cheney.
Cheney is another of those free enterprise supporters who has spent most of his time drawing a government paycheck. However, he did a stint as CEO of Halliburton. The deferred compensation he received from that job is the cause of his crowning achievement, the Iraq War. Cheney received stock options from Halliburton. For those stock options to have value, the price of Halliburtion stock had to rise. For the stock price to rise, Halliburton had to create some sort of anti-free enterprise monopoly, such as "no-bid" federal government contracts to provide goods and services to the Iraq War effort. Cheney sold the Iraq War to the public by lying and pandering to their fears. Ex-Minister of Propaganda, Scott McClellan, acknowledges this in his recent book. Cheney did this for personal gain. The irony of Cheney's actions, separated by decades, is self-preservation by dodging the draft and financial gain by sending over 4,000 American soldiers to their deaths in Iraq.

Sometimes it hard to tell friend from foe here in the U.S.A. To do so, I've devised a simple questionaire to "out" closet Mexicans, muslims and homosexuals. The questions are listed below:
