Huh, really?

Okay, I've had enough and am sick-to-death of this 2008 Election Crap; aren't you? Gaaawd; this 2008 Election Shit is beyond-the-pale, IMO. But it goes on-and-on-and-on-and-on-and on, and there's zero/zip/zilch that you and I can do about it. It's endless, relentless and plodding. We're just passengers; not drivers. And we have no control, dammit. Last Friday, August 15th, was 3 years since my little friend and companion, Pickle, died. Here's that sad week's "Journal" entry, detailing his life and death, with me. I still miss him, around the joint. The GC&N Complex hasn't been the same, since he's been gone. Every time I see handmade signs, "Free Kittens", I come very close to stopping and getting another one or two, to replace him. It tears at my heart, to know that there are so many little innocent kittens who need good homes. At this point in my life, I just can't do it, again. I have two cats at home — Mama Kitty is 13 and Murphy is 11 — and after they're gone, I probably won't get anymore animals. I don't know, for sure. There's just too much emotional attachment to them, on my part. I guess all pet owners go through that, as pets readily become "family members" and extensions of the pet owner, themselves. RIP, Pickle.

Despite all the episodes of Summer t-storms recently, we've not suffered any significant damage to our 4 outdoor irrigation computer controllers, so far. With around 5-6 miles of underground pipe and wires, any direct lightening strike on the property can readily cause burnouts to motherboards, pumps, controllers — anything electronic — and cause me a "very expensive day", which I don't truly "need". The last major incident, a mere 3+ weeks ago, when our main 30-GPM well pump burned-out, and all 400ft of galvanized steel pipe had to be replaced with a crane and 3 men in an "emergency, 2-day rush project", cost me around $7,100 and no, my insurance doesn't cover a damned cent of it. I just didn't need that problem, back then. Well, "shit happens", doesn't it? Yes, it does; all the time. And we "dodged a bullet" on Friday night, as the t-storms moved northeast of us. I need two new $42,500, replacement 10-ton, stake-body, dumptrucks, and not a repair bill for a well pump, dammit.

The ads for our "Open-On-Sundays, Fall 25%-Off Sale, are ready-to-run, next week, and I'll be in to WSBA-WSOX radio, to do the voiceovers on the :30sec radio spots, on Tuesday. I could have had a radio announcer do the voiceovers, but for some reason, people do respond to my voice in th3e radio spots. I kind of enjoy it, and I can easily do it in "one take", though we usually do 2-3, just for "back-up". I'm just that good, BTW. (((heh))) The print ads run in Maryland during the last week of August/first week of September. The radio spots also run during that time period. I'm hoping to generate some additional sales during our once-a-year, "25% Off Fall Sale". Our Fall Workshops Schedule is also posted on my corporate website, and we're counting-on the add-on sales from them, to improve sales numbers.

I'm also hiring weekend help! If you can and/or want to work both Saturdays and Sundays, call me. You're perfect for whom we need, in both September and October.

On the way into work on Saturday morning, I noticed that gas prices at the pump, had dropped another 13¢ since Wednesday. Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $3.43/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $3.53/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is at $3.73/gal. Diesel is still around $4.45/gal, which is bullshit, considering it's much less refined oil, and should be at >$2.00/gal. IMO.$3.99/gal. Yes, gas down 35¢ in less than 30 days.

Is it *just me* who finds "tattooed women", offensive? For years, I've seen them — of all stripes, ages, income brackets, single or married with kids, young, old, mid-age etc — come into my GC&N Complex, and I've found it repulsive to even help them with their selections and purchases, just lately. I consider it "self-mutilation", whether it be men or women, but particularly if it's a woman. Lack of respect for their own self esteem, IMO. Pathetic people, trying to call attention to themselves. Leg, calf, ankle, neck, arm, hand etc tattoos; just awful stuff! (((sigh))) Hey, I remember buying bubblegum packs in the late-50s/early-60s, with "wet&stick ink tattoos", which easily washed-off on my next shower. Do you remember them? I sure wouldn't want any of that *crap* to be permanent, dammit.

I slept-in until 7:30am on Sunday, drove over to a nearby Rutter's to get some black coffee ("High Voltage Dark Roast" w/ 50% more caffeine) — my cleaning lady broke my Chemex 6-Cup Coffee maker on Tuesday — and made a 4-high stack of French Toast, slathered w/ Keller's Butter and Smucker's Peach Preserves. I went back to sleep for another 3hrs, and then went food shopping, at nearby WEIS Markets. Although it was only 71°F, the humidity was around 89%, and simply pushing the loaded shopping cart from the store to my car, was a sweat-inducing experience. Yuk. I truly hate the heat and humidity of August, here in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Down south and in the southwest, it's 75-100x worse, IIRC.

I'm still contemplating a new Samsung 245T 24" Wide Screen LCD Monitor, for my condo's uber-fast, RAID 0+1 (Redundant Array of Independent Disks, or RAID) computer set-up. I use 4 x 250GB SATA hard-drives (1 terrabyte!) of HD, to mirror/stripe the data, so that if one HD fails, a simple replacement, quickly resets & rebuilds the array, wo/ loss of data. This set-up yields the best features of striping and mirroring, to yield large arrays with high performance in most uses, and superior fault tolerance. My office unit is a simple RAID 0 (2 x 250GB SATA HDs; 500GB!) plus a 200GB external Seagate HD, and works flawlessly, and is noticeably-slower than the condo's screaming system. Once you've had/ used a RAID Array, whatever the final HD configuration, you'll never go back to the crappy single HD set-up, ever again. There's just no comparison, IMO. I'll be switching the office system to a RAID 0+1 Array, or better, for the next system installation, BTW. For speed, security and safety, it's the "hot set-up".

Almost 10 years ago, I "had a chance" to have 1-2 wind turbines installed on my 20-ac property, but I turned the offer down. I'm glad I did, since I would have had to participate in the $2-3 million start-up cost/per turbine, and would have reaped only $5,500-$7,000/year income, from them. My contribution to the "power grid" wasn't enough, in that I'd always be lagging-behind a "payback point", until my heirs would perhaps someday, reap some financial benefits; I sure wouldn't realize anything from it. It would have taken me 40-60 years to just break even, and much, much, much longer to realize any profit, from the two units. Total BS, IMO. When I "ran-the-numbers", it just wasn't a viable, profitable venture for me, in my lifetime. And I was only 48, at the time. I can easily sympathize with the people in this article. And the huge volume of dead birds just wasn't worth the payback. I like birds, much more than money, BTW. Actually, I like live birds much more than the people who were offering this crappy deal.

This week's a busy one, for me: a follow-up 'consult meeting' at OSS, to review my latest epidural shot (not working 100%); a recording session at WSBA-910AM for the WSBA/WSOX for :15sec radio spots, which I've had to re-write myself; several customer on-site meetings to review pending LSCP Jobs (I'm doing the little, crappy jobs which James doesn't need to waste time with, BTW); work on QuickBooks 2008 software to get it 'working properly" (not as the moronic, shit-for-brains accountant-consultant screwed-it-up for us, a few weeks ago); free distribution of American Elms to various condo complexes and estate owners of more than 3-acres; several trips to homeowners with dead trees/shrubs to determine whether they killed them, or we did a lousy installation (which I doubt, since 99.97% of all tree/shrubs deaths are the result of homeowners who don't water, or who don't water enough); several LSCP Estimates still languishing on my desk, since I just haven't had the time to get to them; etc. I'll get all that crap finished & cleared-up, this week.

I ordered some "goodie-foodies" from one of my favorite "foodie sites": igourmet. I enjoy going, browsing around, & ordering from that site! They are great folks! Nothing but the very best foods and accessories, IMO. I placed an order on Friday evening, for Boschetto Cheese (cow & ewe milk) studded w/ RARE & EXPENSIVE ***White Truffles***, 4oz of Summer Black Truffles, British DeVon Double Cream Butter, Cobram Estate Australian EVOO, Canadian Proscuitto, and it arrived Tuesday morning; shipped Monday, packed in a styrofoam chest w/ ice packs, due to the perishability of several items. Mmmmmm, good eating is just ahead.

Well, the "Fall-like weather" sure didn't last very long. Monday and most of the week saw the heat and humidity roar back, being pushed-out of the Gulf Region, by TS Fay (the bitch). Even though we won't benefit from any of the rainfall — drought-stricken Texas will receive the lion's share — we'll get the totally-unwanted heat/humidity being pushed ahead of the massive weather system, as will 10-15 other states, who really don't need it. The rainfall would be more welcomed.

One of the four SATA 250GB HDs in my RAID 0+1 Array was ***unhealthy***, and was telling me so, in big, bold red letters, on the WIN XP Pro start-up sequence. This also happened a few months ago, and I used the NVIDIA Media Repair Utility, to repair the errant drive. I'll give it another try, but it looks as though I'll have to replace that 250GB drive in the 4 x 250GB drive array, and let the others "fill-it-in" with the appropriate, which it should contain, as it stripes and mirrors one of the other drives. This RAID 0+1 Array is one of the fastest, safest and most secure of that RAID Array Family's set-ups. Okay, here we go into the "rebuild utility"! See you on "the other side" of it all... okay, rebuilding RAID 0+1 Array using the NVIDIA NVRAID Utility, and it's 47.35% done... 49.66%... 51.06%... 52.88%... 53.98%... 71.97%... 73.66%... 99.65%... and on and on and on, it goes. FINALLY, IT'S DONE & REBUILT! Reboot and check-it. After checking with Jeff, it's time to replace all 4 drives. Okay to go until the 4 new SATA 250GB HDs I've just ordered, will be installed to ***rebuild the array***, after 4 years. By 8:40pm, I had the RAID 0+1 Array rebuilt, and rebooted, and the condo unit was running, ***healthy***, once again.

Sooooooooooooooo, I ordered 4 new Hitachi/SATA 250GB HDs and a Western Digital 500GB external HD, for back-up, "just in case". Heh. As soon as they arrive, Jeff & I will get them installed, and begin the "redundant mirroring process". New HD-drivers will be downloaded — "natch!" — and installed, as well. Simple stuff, really. Meanwhile, the *rebuild* utility, worked! WOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!

I retired early (10pm) on Monday evening, and slept-in until 7am, on Tuesday; I had an 8:30am "consult meeting" at OSS, and then had to make 2 more "stops", before going into work. I took care of those details, and made it into the office, by 10. My LSCP Foreman, Alan, will be out on Wednesday, so I'll have to be in by 6:15am, to open-up, for the LSCP Crews & Key Staff who are in, by 7. Despite the Sciatica Pain, I don't have any other option. Maybe I'll leave early if the pain gets worse. I'll see what happens.

I easily made the 8:30am OSS exam, but while in the exam room, suddenly my BP spiked to 160/120, and I began sweating profusely. The LPN, who was taking the BP and entering data into the exam room's laptop, rushed out and brought back 2 doctors. They got me up on to the exam table, cold-compressed my face, got me sipping cool water and checked the BP again; I had no chest pains or tightness/ numbness, though. The BP started dropping slowly. Dr Grolman stated that I'd had 3 large cortisone epidural shots in 4½ weeks, and that might be causing the "hot flashes" and BP spikes. (Male men-o-pause? Okay; sorry, my bad!) No more shots for 2-3mos, he said. The body needs more time to absorb all that steroid liquid. He wanted to put me on to a pain-reducing drug, called Neurontin, but after I read some of the side affects associated with it — thoughts of suicide, hostility, nausea, anger, wanting to hurt oneself, thinking abnormal, depression, weight gain etc — I declined to take it. (Hells bells, I have those same "problems" every time I think about liberals!) I'll "soldier-on" wo/ it, thankyouverymuch. The 50%-reduced pain is far, far preferable to all those potential problems, IMO. (((sigh))) I'm so sick and tired of hurting. "My entire kingdom & fortune for a day without any pain."

On Wednesday, I filled-up my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee "Laredo", in nearby Stewartstown (PA), and noticed that gas had dropped another 4¢, since Saturday. Unleaded Regular (87oct) is now at $3.39/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) is at $3.49/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) is at $3.69/gal. Sure, the price of crude is still dropping, but our "national gas reserves" are almost depleted, and the price-at-the-pump won't be going down too much more, over the next couple of months, IMO. The *price of crude* and *national gas reserves* are only remotely related, BTW.

My LSCP Foreman, was back into work, on Thursday, so I slept-in that morning, and he opened-up at 6;45am. My back/leg/foot pain was increasing on Wednesday, by 4-5pm, and by the time I got home and applied a 'fridge-frozen, cold-pak, and laid-down on the LR couch, with my 2 condo cats climbing/sleeping all over me, I had some "relief" (from my two kitties),who'd absorbed some of the pain/injury. The only time that I have *no real pain*, is either when I'm laying-down, or sleeping. Just damn. "My entire kingdom & fortune, for a day without any pain." Hmmmm, didn't I say that, once/twice/thrice, before? Seems that I did so.

As of Thursday afternoon, I'm current with all LSCP Estimates, Revised LSCP Estimates, :15sec radio spot voiceovers, phone call callbacks, and am putting another list together for *dead-dying plant site visits*. I have a small pile of marketing decisions to make: "Roots & Shoots" newsletter resurrection for Fall or Winter or Spring, Aberdeen BRAC newsletter ads for Spring '09, upcoming Saturday Workshops additional promotion in September & October, cancellation of most Spring nursery stock orders, and a group of 5-8 American Elm saplings to give away, this Fall. This Sunday, the 24th and next Sunday, the 31st, are my last two Sundays-off, before we start the "25%-Off Fall Sale" and the "7 Days A Week From Hell" schedule, for September. If we don't realize a significant sales & dollar volume increase, I'll be real tempted to cancel it in October. I'm spending significant monies to promote it, but with the ongoing "Drought From Hell", high gas and food prices, and the liberal-demokkkRAT-controlled media telling everyone how shitty the economy is, I'll have to evaluate whether it's worthwhile or not. With the unusually-cool weather in mid-August, I'm thinking we're going to have early frost in September, and probably, an early and harsh Winter. We could sure use some serious rainfall, right about now.

Wallace Bowman Jr, 30, of Bowie (TX), needs summary killing, for kidnapping and murdering a store clerk, Mindy Daffern, 46. Bowman is a lowlife, piece-of-shit, Nigga^®-filth, with a lengthy criminal record, and who should have been headshot, IMO, years ago. Mindy would still be alive, if that sambo/porch-monkey had been justly-killed. I don't give-a-shit what color the kidnapper/murderer is; just KILL THEM, and don't let any of them back into society, where they can prey upon and kill, innocents. KILL THEM ALL! IMO. Craig R. Wilson, 28, of Cuyahoga Falls (OH), a subhuman piece-of-white-trash, needs killing in the worst way: he murdered — shaking and squeezing the infant after arguing with his wife, Crystal Wilson — his tiny 12-week-old baby, because "the baby cried". I truly hope he's tortured and beaten to death, in prison. I can't imagine why anyone would do something as heinous and hellish as what Wilson's done. I just can't understand that 1,400 babies annually are injured or killed by shaking. God help me; I just can't understand or forgive something like that, done to a helpless, innocent infant.
